Oklahoma vs Texas Free Pick

Baker Mayfield tries to lead Sooners over LonghornsBig 12 action highlights a full schedule of college football on Saturday when the No. 12 ranked Oklahoma Sooners visit the Texas Longhorns at the Cotton Bowl, in Dallas, Texas. The current line on top sportsbooks has Oklahoma favored by 7.5 points with the over/under point total on 64.5.

Entering this game, Oklahoma on the season is 4-1 straight up and 3-2 against the spread. On the road, the Sooners are 2-0 SU and 1-1 ATS. Texas on the season is 3-2 SU and 3-1-1 ATS. At home, the Longhorns are 2-1 SU and 1-1-1 ATS.

Last week Oklahoma lost at home to Iowa State by 7 points as 31-point chalk. They failed to cover the number by an almost unbelievable 38 points. Texas is coming off two straight wins over Iowa State followed by Kansas State.

With injuries depleting the Sooners defense, that side of the ball gave up 449 yards to the Cyclones including 368 through the air.

Texas has seen its season improve since losing its opener 51-41 to Maryland. The Longhorns are 3-1 since, with the only loss against USC in a very close game. The Longhorns most recent win was a 40-34 victory last week over Kansas State.

Against K-State Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger had 487 yards of total offense with two touchdowns and an interception.

Ehlinger did all he could to help the Longhorns win, but kicker Joshua Rowland missed what would have been a game winning field goal from just 45 yards. The game eventually went to overtime and Texas prevailed.

The running game for Texas has improved gaining 166 yards against K-State and scoring three touchdowns. The Sooners defense will have a hard time stopping the rush but has an ace in the hole in quarterback Baker Mayfield.

Mayfield is a Heisman Trophy candidate and his arm and legs have are the motor behind the high scoring Sooners offense. If the Sooners defense keeps Texas from scoring too many points, the Oklahoma offense will do their part in lighting up the scoreboard.

The Sooners play very well on the road. Oklahoma is 22-5 SU and 21-6 ATS in its past 27 road games during the regular season against teams that are above .500.

Oklahoma is 7-2 ATS in its last 9 games played dating back to last season.

Texas is 5-1-1 ATS in its last 7 games against teams with a record above .500.

With this free pick, we like Oklahoma to cover.

Texas vs USC Free Pick

Week 3 of college football includes a showdown in southern California when the No. 4 ranked USC Trojans host the Texas Longhorns. The current line on top sportsbooks has USC favored by 15.5 points with the over/under point total on 67.5.

Entering this game, Texas on the season is 1-1 straight up and against the spread, while USC is 2-0 SU and 1-1 ATS. This is the first official road game for Texas, while USC is 2-0 SU and 1-1 at home.

This is the first meeting between the two schools since the Rose Bowl in 2006. USC has won 11 straight games dating back to last season and is coming off an impressive showing last week in its 42-24 win at home over Pac-12 rival Stanford.

The offensive skill positions have come up big for USC with Ronald Jones II the No. 1 running back rushing for a total of 275 yards and 5 touchdowns over the first two games.

Texas gave up 263 yards on the ground to Maryland in its loss to open the season. The Longhorns returned for a 56-0 blowout win last week over San Jose State. Freshman signal caller Sam Ehlinger debuted after starter Shane Buechele was sidelined with a shoulder injury.

Ehlinger made the best of his opportunity with 222 yards passing, one touchdown pass plus 47 yards rushing. The Longhorns hope to mix running with passing and piece together long time consuming drives to keep the potent USC offense on the sidelines.

Last week Chris Warren III rushed for 166 yards and a pair of touchdowns for the Longhorns. Ehlinger is expected to start again this week and his running ability is superior to that of Buechele.

USC must continue to improve its offense under Heisman Trophy candidate quarterback Sam Darnold. The USC signal caller has already thrown four interceptions in only 59 passes thrown. Last season in 366 passes, he was intercepted only 9 times.

However, Darnold will likely be handing off more often than dropping back, as the running attack for USC looks to take advantage of a weak front seven against the run for the Longhorns.

USC’s Jones has rushed for one touchdown or more in nine straight games.

The Longhorns have four non-offensive touchdowns after just two games, while not scoring any all of last season.

Texas is 5-2 ATS in its last 7 games versus opponents from the Pac-12.

USC is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games played at home.

With this free pick, we like Texas to cover.

Notre Dame vs Texas Free Pick

College football’s Week 1 extends to Sunday this weekend when the No. 9 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish visit the Texas Longhorns. The current line has Notre Dame favored by 3.5 points with the over/under point total sitting on 59 on many top sportsbooks.

Notre Dame begins another season with high aspirations of winning a National Championship. Its offense should be very explosive behind the leadership of two quarterback sharing playing time. Texas is hoping to come back from last season’s losing record.

Last year the two losses for Notre Dame during the regular season came by a combined four points. The team will still close to being chosen to play in the College Football Playoff but lost in its regular season finale to Stanford 38-36 ending any hopes.

Malik Zaire began last season for Notre Dame as the starting quarterback, but broke his ankle in the second game of the season. That gave DeShone Kizer the opportunity to shine in his absence and both have battled in camp for the starting job.    › Continue reading
