After today, only sixteen teams will remain and two fighting to reach the Sweet 16 face off today when the Minnesota Golden Gophers of the Big Ten take on the Southeastern Conference champions the Florida Gators. Minnesota has an overall record of 21-12 straight up and 16-15 against the spread. Florida enters this second round matchup with a record of 27-7 straight up and 17-14 against the spread.
Florida Head Coach Billy Donovan and his counterpart for Minnesota Tubby Smith have won three national titles between them and are known for the head-to-head battles. Donavon’s Gators played against Kentucky when Smith coached the Wildcats at Georgia when Smith ran the Georgia program.
Minnesota defeated UCLA on Friday 83-63 to reach the second round. It was Minnesota’s first win in a NCAA tournament in six years. However, Minnesota was worried they would not even play in this season’s tournament. The Gophers started the season on fire with a record of 15-1 after 16 games but finished their regular season 5-11 in their last 16 games. Minnesota was winless since early March until downing UCLA on Friday. › Continue reading
On Saturday March 23, 2013 the Oregon Ducks face the St. Louis Billikens in both teams second round of play. The Oddsmakers have St. Louis as -3.5 favorites in this game.
In their last game St. Louis easily defeated the New Mexico State team by 20 points to advance. They were favored by 9.5 points in that game and the final score was 64-44. The points allowed was well below the average that they allow which was 57.7 during the regular season. St. Louis comes in with a 28-6 SU and is 22-10 ATS.
Oregon is really playing well right now. After having won the Pac-12 conference tourney against UCLA they defeated a very good Oklahoma State team by 13 points. Big Ten Tournament, Chicago, Illinois
#22 ranked Wisconsin will take on #3 ranked Indiana today at 1:40 pm EST. Wisconsin is coming off a major victory against Michigan in the tournament. Oddsmakers have Indiana favored in this matchup by 6.5 points.
Indiana has been the Juggernaut much of the season holding the number 1 ranking longer than any other school. But it has been a “merry go round” when it comes to rankings and who is number one. Indiana is widely considered the best team in the country. With that said, the Big Tn Conference is the best conference in the country and most any team can knock off the other at any given time. › Continue reading
Saturday March 9 2013 at 12:00 noon EST the University of Florida Gators are in Lexington to take on the Wildcats of Kentucky. The line has not been created as of the writing of this article but we are guessing the line will be somewhere around Florida -8.
This is the last game for both teams before the start of the conference tourney and the official start to what people refer to as “March Madness”. The Gators come into this game with a healthy 24-5 record overall and are 15-11 ATS. On the road this season the Gators have been decent with a 7-5 record ATS. The Gators have won three of their last four games including easy wins against Vandy, Bama and Arkansas. Their loss was against Tennessee. › Continue reading
Today, Sunday February 24, 2013 The Cincinnati Bearcats are in South Bend to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Notre Dame is hanging on to their ranking and are currently #25 in the nation. Oddsmakers have Notre Dame -3.5 and the total listed at 123.5.
Notre Dame is 21-6 SU and 12-12 ATS this season. The Irish average 72 points per game on offense and allow about 64 points. This shows that their margins on victory haven’t been large. They are 15-2 at home this season and they are coming off of a big win at Pitt. › Continue reading
At 4:00 pm EST The South Carolina Gamecocks basketball team is in Alabama to take on the Crimson Tide. This is an end of regular season matchup that proves to be interesting for the betting faithful. South Carolina is pretty much out of any post season contention whereas Alabama has plans to make a run in the SEC tourney and possibly the Big Dance.
South Carolina is 12-12 this season and just 2-9 in the conference. They did beat LSU and Arkansas earlier this season but LSU just gained redemption beating S. Carolina 64-46. The Gamecocks have also lost a bunch of games by a bunch of point this season. At Florida they were trounced 75-36. › Continue reading
The Los Angeles Lakers have found relative success of late, making the significance of their Thursday night matchup with the Boston Celtics all the more exciting. Can they finally live up to their NBA odds against a playoff-bound Eastern Conference contender?
Although not without uncertainty of their own this season, Boston’s veteran core has produced at rates that Lakers fans could only dream of throughout the first half of the regular season. Despite that, however, it’s the Lakers with the advantage on the NBA futures. › Continue reading
Today’s free pick is a 7:00 PM EST tip off Big 10 matchup between Michigan State and Minnesota. We love handicapping Big Ten action because it is the best conference in the country and there is so much parody that you can taste it in the cold winter air. Michigan State is favored by 4.5 points. We like to handicap games much more than totals. There is much more info to work with. So, we will stay away from total analysis on this one.
Minnesota comes into this matchup 17-5 SU and 13-7 ATS. They just pulled off a squeaker against Iowa a few days ago in Minnesota and failed to cover the ten point spread. Minnesota has already defeated Michigan State this year 76-63. They have also defeated USC, Stanford and Florida State. They are bouncing back from a four game skid and have won the last two games. › Continue reading
Tuesday night February 5, 2013 Florida State is in Atlanta to take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. It is a late game start as the game tips at 9:00PM EST. The Seminoles of FSU come into the game with a 12-9 record straight up and just 8-11 ATS. Georgia Tech is about the same with a 12-8 record and 9-9 ATS. This is their first and only regular season matchup of the year.
Florida State’s claim to fame this year would have to be the fact that they swept Maryland and Clemson both times they played each team for a total of four victories. Recent losses have all been blowouts including a 20 point loss at Virginia, a 17 point loss to Duke and a miserable 24 point loss at Miami FL in a game where the offense was only able to muster 47 points. › Continue reading
Tonight at 9:00 pm EST the number 1 Michigan Wolverines are at Indiana to take on the number 3 Hoosiers. The spread is currently Indiana -5.5. The initial line was -4.5. The public seems to be riding Michigan on this one which is weird that the line is moving the other way. There could be some “smart money” on Indiana or bets from sharp bettors that cause sportsbooks to move the line. This in itself is gambling by the sportsbook manager.
Michigan doesn’t have much success when it comes to playing the Hoosiers at Indiana. In the last 75 trips to Indiana the Wolverines have only managed to win 12 of them! That is a 12-63 record. Indiana started the season off as preseason ranked number 1. They are a stacked team. Michigan has worked it’s way up to number one. This may be the most anticipated game of the season thus far. › Continue reading
