Cincinnat Bengals 2017 Outlook

The AFC North is expected to be a competitive division for the top three places, with the Cincinnati Bengals expected to finish second or third behind the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Last season was a big disappointed for the Bengals who finished 6-9-1, but Andy Dalton returns under center and hopes are they will once again be very competitive. The defense will once again be their strength.

Poor playoffs showings have overshadowed that Cincinnati was one of the most consistent NFL franchises between 2011 and 2015. The team played in the postseason each of those five seasons and won 10 games or more four times.

Quality veterans once again left the team via free agency during the offseason which has pressured the draft selections to produce the last two seasons. › Continue reading

AFC Championship Betting — Colts Need to Stop Pats on the Ground – Period

By Charles Jay

Tom Brady's offense could beat the Colts on the ground or through the air.

Tom Brady’s offense could beat the Colts on the ground or through the air.

How good are the Indianapolis Colts? That question has to be asked, in a nice way, of course, following their two playoff victories thus far, particularly their win last week against the Denver Broncos. BetAnySports customers have seen this team be quite formidable on defense at times, and they have most certainly gotten the job done in these last two contests. But their stop unit has been beaten and bruised by the New England Patriots over the last twelve months or so, and one can expect that the Pats might follow the same formula they have used to do previous damage, although they don’t necessarily have to. These teams will meet in the AFC Championship game at Gillette Stadium at 6:40 PM ET. And football wagering continues throughout the evening with Live Betting Extra.

Perhaps it was not a huge surprise that the Colts had shut down Cincinnati in the 26-10 wild-card round victory, considering that they had slowed the Bengals to a crawl in an earlier meeting and didn’t have to deal with AJ Green. But the 24-13 win over the Denver Broncos may have come as something of a shocker, as they limited the Broncos – and Peyton Manning – to just 288 yards. Of course, Manning is said to have been suffering from a quad injury, but Indy did not let CJ Anderson (who had averaged over 100 yards rushing over the previous six games) take over, nor did they allow Jeremy Hill, Cincinnati’s workhorse in the backfield, to get too far. › Continue reading

NFC Championship Picks — Rodgers’ Injury and Seahawks’ Home Edge May Be Deciding Factors in NFC Title Game

By Charles Jay

Russell Wilson has the best playoff QB rating of all-time.....believe it or not.

Russell Wilson has the best playoff QB rating of all-time…..believe it or not.

Did last week’s less-than-dominant effort by the Seattle Seahawks create something of an opening for the Green Bay Packers this week? Mike McCarthy and his staff like to think so. Let’s put it this way – this team had better find SOME opening if they are going to have a chance to move on to the next step, which is the Super Bowl. But when they compete in the NFC Championship game they will face a Seattle defense that held them to just 255 yards in the season opener and will be focused on exploiting the calf injury of Aaron Rodgers. Football betting action gets underway at 3:05 PM ET at CenturyLink Field in Seattle, but BetAnySports customers don’t have to stop there, as they can take their shot at dozens of propositions that are available through the magic of Live Betting Extra.

For a six-week period to end the season, the Seahawks’ defense gave up an average of 202 yards a game and a total of 39 points. So naturally the Carolina Panthers, who had scored a grand total of 28 points in the previous three meetings with them, were not expected to do much. But the Panthers were able to maintain an edge in time of possession and had 362 yards of offense. The difference, certainly for those who took 13.5 points with Carolina, was a 90-yard interception return by Seattle’s Kam Chancellor that potentially constituted a 14-point swing. › Continue reading

Football Bets — AFC Playoffs: Defense May Tell the Tale in Broncos-Colts Clash

By Charles Jay

DeMarcus Ware could wind up being a key figure in Sunday's AFC playoff game.

DeMarcus Ware could wind up being a key figure in Sunday’s AFC playoff game.

Everybody who makes football bets on the NFL at BetAnySports is aware of how capable the aerial attacks of the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos are. But what may not be getting enough attention is the way these two teams can play defense. And smart NFL bettors may be thinking that defense could be the controlling factor as these two teams meet up in the AFC Divisional Round playoff game at Sports Authority Field in Denver, starting at 4:40 PM ET and televised on CBS.

The quarterbacks in this matchup are celebrated, and deservedly so. Andrew Luck of the Colts took over for Peyton Manning and has been a big producer, leading the league this season with 40 touchdown passes. He also had 4761 yards, so one can count on footballs filling the air from the Indianapolis perspective. Manning, after his release by the Colts, took his act to Denver, and has been a rousing success. He won the MVP award last season and took the Broncos into the Super Bowl, where they lost of the Seattle Seahawks. This season he has 4727 yards through the air, a 7.9-yard average per attempt, and 39 touchdown passes. As usual, Manning avoids getting sacked (only 17 times this year). › Continue reading

Football Betting Preview – Will the Cowboys-Packers Matchup Be an Offensive Explosion? Totals Bettors Want to Know

By Charles Jay

Aaron Rodgers has 25 TD passes without an interception at home.

Aaron Rodgers has 25 TD passes without an interception at home.

Maybe this is a case of the irresistible force beating the immovable object, and we don’t think we are over- dramatizing it one bit. When the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers square off on Sunday afternoon in NFC Divisional Round playoff action, it is a matchup between the league’s best home team versus the league’s best visitor. It also puts together the leagues two highest-rated quarterbacks and two of the most explosive offenses. This all makes for a very attractive scenario as football betting action gets underway at 1:05 PM ET at historic Lambeau Field in Green Bay.

The Cowboys come into this game with a record of 13-4 straight-up, and they are a solid 10-7 against the football pointspread. However, they have been especially good on the road, with a perfect 8-0 record in which they have covered seven of those eight games against the NFL betting odds. The Packers finished at 12-4 straight-up, winning the NFC North title, and they were 8-7-1 ATS. Green Bay went undefeated at home, with a 6-2 ledger against the points. › Continue reading

Football Betting Odds — Seahawks Out to Smother Panthers on Road to Super Bowl

By Charles Jay

Can Russell Wilson shake loose from the revived Carolina defense?

Can Russell Wilson shake loose from the revived Carolina defense?

The NFL hasn’t seen anything like it this year. The Seattle Seahawks, as if on cue, have all of a sudden turned that switch on that says “keep opponents out of the end zone.” They have been extremely difficult to gain ground on over the last six games, and as a result, they have not only won all six and covered all six, but limited the opposition to just 39 points in the process. This is an extremely difficult mountain for the Carolina Panthers to climb, considering that the NFC South champions have won less than half their games. As expected, the Panthers will have to overcome some hefty football betting odds to move past this stage and into the NFC championship game. They will kick it off at Century Link Field at 8:15 PM ET, with live television provided by the Fox Network.

Yes, there was a time this season when BetAnySports customers may have wondered whether the Seahawks (priced at +200 to win the Super Bowl) were even going to get to the playoffs. They started out with a 3-3 record, after losing consecutive games – first at home against the Dallas Cowboys, where they had only eight first downs, and then on the road at St. Louis, where the Rams pulled a few tricks and held off a late rally. Since then there has been only one defeat, at Kansas City. And over these last six games, only the Philadelphia Eagles, who were held to 139 yards, scored more than seven points. Carolina certainly has a very rough puzzle to solve, and NFL bettors have been trying to figure out whether they have enough firepower to even keep this game close. › Continue reading

NFL Betting Lines — Confident Giants Look to Go Out on Winning Note vs. Eagles

By Charles Jay

Odell Beckham is aiming for rookie of the year honors.

Odell Beckham is aiming for rookie of the year honors.

The New York Giants appear to have a much healthier outlook than they did a month ago, and they hope to use that as a springboard for successful 2015 season. On Sunday afternoon they will try to end the year on a winning note as they play host to the Philadelphia Eagles in NFL betting action that begins at 1 PM ET at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ.

The Giants went through a very painful seven-game losing streak, during which time they were officially eliminated from the playoff race. Rather than go away with a whimper, they have come alive with three straight victories, and truth be told, they have actually played pretty well over the last month and a half. The Eagles, meanwhile, looked like they were ticketed for the playoffs, but have fallen apart, losing consecutive games to the Seattle Seahawks, Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins. At 9-6 straight-up (7-7-1 ATS) they have been eliminated from playoff consideration. The Giants are currently 6-9 straight-up and 7-8 against the football pointspread. › Continue reading

Football Betting Preview — Falcons Must Come Through at Home Against Panthers in NFC South Title Tiff

By Charles Jay

It is do-or-die for Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday

It is do-or-die for Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday

Yes, it is truly amazing that as bad as the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers have played this season, they are now in a position where they can host a playoff game next week. As BetAnySports patrons know, that is the way the NFC South worked out this year, and in a sense it was rather exciting, because no matter how bad a team was, they were never really out of it. Last week the New Orleans Saints got eliminated as Atlanta went to the Superdome and completed a season sweep. Now the Falcons play host to the Panthers in the one-off game for the division crown, with football betting action getting underway at 4:25 PM ET at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.

The Panthers won their first two games of the season, then went on a run where they went just 1-8-1 straight-up. It is only with three straight victories that they have climbed back into the division lead. It has been there good fortune to face a New Orleans team that was in the midst of collapse, and then the Buccaneers and Browns, who are severely challenged on offense. One thing you can say about the Falcons is that they can put some points on the board, so Carolina, which was last in the league on defense before this modest winning streak began, will unquestionably be facing a different test than it has in a while.

In the football betting odds that have been posted on this game at BetAnySports, the Falcons are favored by a field goal:

Atlanta Falcons -3
Carolina Panthers +3

Over 48 points -110
Under 48 points -110

It has unquestionably been a rough season for Cam Newton. The Carolina quarterback missed the season opener with rib and leg injuries, and has been pressured by opposition pass rushes all season long. That he got in a car accident in which he broke to bones in his lower back. It is almost miraculous that he has actually come back to play, and on top of that, he ran for 63 yards against the Cleveland Browns last week. You’ve got to give him an A-plus for courage.

But he has to get the job done this week against an Atlanta team that sacked Drew Brees five times last week and intercepted him twice. That may have been out of character for the Falcons, who have a total of just 21 quarterback sacks on the year. Atlanta will be missing safety William Moore, and that won’t help them. But defensive coordinators have not exactly had tremors when preparing to face the Panthers, who don’t really have a dangerous wide receiver aside from rookie Kelvin Benjamin, who has had a superb freshman season (999 yards).

Atlanta (+3500 to win the NFC title in the NFL futures at BetAnySports) may struggle a bit more than usual to put a running game together with Steven Jackson most probably out with a strained quad. But they have been able to work some other people into the rotation, so the effect of that absence may be mitigated somewhat. There are a couple of factors here that may make the difference. One of them is that the Atlanta passing attack functions a little more smoothly, as Matt Ryan (4434 yards, only 25 sacks) has multiple outlets, including the best player on the field, wideout Julio Jones (100 receptions, 1535 yards). And the Falcons have proven to be one of the league’s most efficient teams in the red zone, ranking second in points per possession, while Carolina is 25th. The number is reasonable, so we’ll lay the field goal with ATLANTA in our football betting prediction.

NFL Betting Odds — Packers Have History on Their Side as They Host Lions For Division Crown

By Charles Jay

Aaron Rodgers hopes to do better this time against the Detroit defense

Aaron Rodgers hopes to do better this time against the Detroit defense

How good are the Detroit Lions? Well, we have seen throughout the season that the offense has often malfunctioned, but the defense has been rock-ribbed for the most part. The Lions are easily one of the top three defenses in the league, and they have certainly been the stingiest against the run. That might be a big factor as they face off against the Green Bay Packers with the NFC North championship at stake. NFL betting action will take place at Lambeau Field in Green Bay at 4:25 PM ET on Sunday.

These teams are tied atop the division with records of 11-4. The Lions are currently on a four-game winning streak, but some questions might exist among BetAnySports customers as to how well they can play against top-shelf teams. They have scored one victory thus far against a team that is guaranteed to be in the playoffs, but the team happens to be the Packers, who they thoroughly shut down in the season’s third game up at Ford Field, limiting Green Bay to just 223 yards of offense and keeping Aaron Rodgers well under control. Of course, this is a different atmosphere, on a different surface and with different weather conditions. The Lions have not fared well at this location, going winless since 1991. Don’t think for a minute that doesn’t have a certain psychological effect on this team. And they have applied an extra level of focus, going so far as to practice on Christmas day in an all-out effort to win a division title and host a playoff game at home. › Continue reading

Football Betting — Is the Jets-Titans Game Really the “Loser Bowl”?

By Charles Jay

Can Geno Smith do anything to keep his job?

Can Geno Smith do anything to keep his job?

What is going to happen eventually with the Tennessee Titans and New York Jets? Will either one of them be using the same quarterback at this time next year? Perhaps questions like that are going to be answered on Sunday, when these teams meet up in football betting action that is set to begin at 4:05 PM ET at LP Field in Nashville.

BetAnySports customers recognize that the Jets may be close to the end of its rope with Geno Smith, who was a second-round draft pick last year and has been prone to mistakes ever since he put on a Jets uniform. Yes, the possibility is that he was made an NFL starter too early, because general manager John Idzik wanted it that way. And maybe he is going to sink head coach Rex Ryan right along with him. But here he is, and he just hasn’t worked out. Last season he had 12 TD’s and 21 interceptions, and this season he has an 8-12 ratio of TD’s to INT’s. In this day and age, that just doesn’t do. And it may not matter that the team has been more competitive since he was re-inserted into the lineup. › Continue reading
