Vikings vs Bears Free Pick

Vikings visit Bears as 3.5-point chalk on MNFWeek 5 of the NFL regular season concludes with Monday Night Football when the Minnesota Vikings visit the Chicago Bears in an NFC North clash. The current line on top sportsbooks has Minnesota favored by 3.5 points with the over/under point total on 40.5.

Entering this game, Minnesota on the season is 2-2 straight up and against the spread. On the road, the Vikings are 0-1 SU and ATS. Chicago on the season is 1-3 SU and 2-2 ATS. At home, the Bears are 1-1 SU and 2-2 ATS.

Chicago has changed its quarterback, while Minnesota hopes to do the same Monday when these two rivals meet at famed Soldier Field. Mitchell Trubisky the No. 2 pick overall in the 2017 NFL draft will debut in the NFL at quarterback for the Bears.

The Vikings hope that starting quarterback Sam Bradford can return from a knee injury he suffered in the team’s season opener.

Trubisky said he was excited and ready to lead the Bears offense. He will have a difficult first game against a very aggressive Minnesota defense that recorded six sacks against Detroit’s Matthew Stafford in the Vikings 14-7 loss last Sunday to the Lions.

Minnesota was hit with a big blow last week when rookie running back Dalvin Cook torn his ACL. Against Detroit, quarterback Case Keenum threw for just 219 yards for the Vikings. Bradford practiced on a limited basis, but coaches said if he was ready he would get the starting nod.

Latavius Murray is now the top running back for Minnesota following Cook’s season ending injury. The former Oakland Raiders rusher said his ankle is still not 100% following surgery during the offseason. Vikings wide receiver Michael Floyd returns from a four-game suspension.

Bears running back Jordan Howard continues to run the ball often for the Bears and entering this week was No. 4 amongst rookies in yards from scrimmage with 331. He also leads all running backs in the league in receptions with 24.

On January 1, the Vikings beat the Bears 38-10 in the final game of the 2016 regular season.

Minnesota is 1-5 ATS in its last 6 games versus opponents from the NFC North.

Chicago is 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games versus opponents from the NFC.

With this free pick, we like Minnesota to cover.

Minnesota Vikings 2017 Outlook

The Minnesota Vikings will feature new faces this season including a new running back as veteran Adrian Peterson is no longer with the team. Last season the Vikings started strong but finished poorly ending the season at 8-8 in third place in the NFC North.

Minnesota entered free agency needing help on its offensive line and found it. The Vikings signed Mike Remmers an offensive right tackle and Riley Reiff a left tackle. The two will help protect quarterback Sam Bradford as well as help the new lineups of running backs with strong blocking.

The Vikings also signed free agent Latavius Murray who will replace the departed Peterson. The former running back for the Raiders had surgery on his ankle during the offseason, but is expected to battle with Dalvin Cook the No. 1 pick by the Vikings out of Florida State.

Besides losing Peterson the Vikings also lost Matt Kalil their left tackle, Captain Munnerlyn a cornerback, Andre Smith a tackle and two wide receivers Charles Johnson and Cordarrelle Paterson.

It is still not clear if Teddy Bridgewater the 2015 starting quarterback will return to the field this season after missing all of 2016. His knee injury was horrific last August but he no longer needs a brace yet is far from being 100%.

Besides drafting Cook with their first pick, the Vikings took Pat Elflien who will compete right away for the starting center job, while another pick Stacy Coley could be a kickoff and punt returner.

The offensive line will be key this season for the Vikings. If they can open holes for Murray early and eventually Cook later in the season, the Vikings could become spoilers or even sneak in with a wildcard berth.

Last season they were 5-0 to start but declined rapidly after that. The defense has been the team’s strength and a few new additions could be the difference in them returning to the postseason in 2017.

Minnesota Odds

NFC North – 7 to 2

NFC Championship – 12 to 1

Super Bowl LII – 40-1

2016 NFL Team Preview: Minnesota Vikings

A big surprise in the NFC North last season was the Minnesota Vikings, as they unexpectedly won the division title, but this season they could find things more difficult.

Minnesota Vikings Odds

Win Total – 9.5 – Over (-145), Under (+115)

NFC North title – 2 to 1

NFC title – 8 to 1

Super Bowl champions – 16 to 1

Mike Zimmer the Minnesota head coach made just a few coaching changes to his offense with two former head coaches in the NFL Tony Sparano taking over as offensive line coach and Pat Shurmur as tight ends coach.

One key position to follow this season for Minnesota is wide receiver. Minnesota does not have a consistent passing attack with Teddy Bridgewater under center. However, that could change this season with two talented receivers like Stefon Diggs and Charles Johnson coming into their own.   › Continue reading
