Chiefs vs Texans Free Pick

Week 5 ends its Sunday schedule with a Sunday Night Football showdown between the visiting Kansas City Chiefs and the host Houston Texans. The current line on top sportsbooks has the game as a PICK, with the over/under point total sitting on 45.

Entering this game, Kansas City is 4-0 straight up and against the spread. On the road, the Chiefs are 2-0 SU and ATS. Houston on the season is 2-2 SU and 3-1 ATS. At home, the Texans are 1-1 SU and ATS.

Kansas City enters this game as the only unbeaten team in the NFL after four weeks but will have a stiff test against Houston and the Texans’ rookie sensation at quarterback Deshaun Watson.

The Chiefs will be coming in off a late game field that beat the Washington Redskins Monday night. Kansas City has its own flashy rookie in running back Kareem Bell who leads the NFL in rushing with 502 yards and has 659 yards from scrimmage.

Houston has been a different team since Watson took over at quarterback. The rookie out of Clemson either passed or rushed for five touchdowns in Houston’s 57-14 rout of Tennessee. But All-Pro defensive end J.J. Watt has cautioned his Texans’ teammates not to get carried away over the win last week.

Kansas City quarterback Alex Smith is playing superb under center. Smith knows how tough it can be playing on the road and knows limiting turnovers is the key to his team’s success. He leads the NFL in passer rating at 124 and completion percentage at 76%.

Watson passed for 283 yards and four TDs last week while rushing for another. DeAndre Hopkins with 31 receptions is Watson’s favorite target, but Will Fuller another wide receiver caught two touchdowns passes last week against the Titans.

Kansas City’s Hunt can become just the second rookie in NFL history with 100 yards from scrimmage or more in each of his first five NFL games.

Houston’s Watson is the only rookie quarterback in NFL history to throw seven or more touchdowns passes and rush for two more in his first four games of his rookie season.

Houston beat Kansas City last season 19-12, but Kansas City had won three straight against Houston prior to that loss.

Kansas City is 13-3 ATS in its last 16 games on the road.

Houston is 1-5 ATS in its last 6 games after a win straight up.

With this free pick, we like Houston to win.

Texans vs Bengals Free Pick

Week 2 of the NFL regular season begins with Thursday Night Football when the Houston Texans visit the Cincinnati Bengals in an AFC showdown. The current line on top sportsbooks has Cincinnati favored by 4 points with the over/under point total on 38.5.

Entering this game, Houston is 0-1 straight up and against the spread, while Cincinnati is 0-1 SU and ATS as well. Houston is expected to battle for first place in the AFC South, while Cincinnati is expected to finish second or third in the AFC North.

Houston and Cincinnati both started their regular seasons with losses at home, as the Texans lost to Jacksonville 29-7, and the Bengals were kept off the scoreboard by Baltimore 20-0.

Both teams must bounce back following poor performances but have a short week to turn things around. Last season, the Texans defeated the Bengals 12-10 at home.

Tom Savage started the first game of the season against Jacksonville but in the first half alone was sacked six times and fumbled twice, one of which was returned for a Jaguars touchdown.

In the second half, Deshaun Watson came in and passed for 102 yards, one touchdown and one interception. The Texans offensive line allowed 10 sacks by the Jaguars.

The Houston defense allowed 155 yards on the ground and did not have a quarterback sack.

Cincinnati quarterback Andy Dalton last season had 4,205 yards passing and 18 touchdowns, but against a tough Ravens defense threw four interceptions and committed one fumble. Cincinnati could only rush for 77 yards against a tough Baltimore front seven.

The Bengals defense held Baltimore to just 268 yards of total offense, but 157 yards were on the ground. Starting linebacker Vincent Rey was the leading tackler with 11 for the game for Cincinnati.

Cincinnati did not play well at all in Week 1, but did not have top defenders Vontez Burfict or Adam Jones because both were suspended. Jones returns, but Burfict will miss another week.

Houston’s J.J. Watt will play with a dislocated finger which could make it difficult for him to tackle.

Houston is 0-7 ATS in its last 7 games played on Thursday.

Cincinnati is 6-1-1 ATS in its last 8 games played in Week 2.

With this free pick, we like Cincinnati to cover.

Houston Texans 2017 Outlook

The Houston Texans will try to win their third straight AFC South title in 2017.

The Texans have been nothing short of consistent in the three years Bill O’Brien has been head coach, with three straight seasons of 9-7, including winning the last two titles in the AFC South.

When one thinks of the Texans often times the first thing to come to mind is J.J. Watt. The talented defensive end missed most of last season, but the unit was still No. 1 in the NFL. However, three starters were lost to free agency and that could hurt.

When thinking of the Houston offense, one thinks off the problems the team has had at quarterback. Tom Savage has been given the nod as the starter, but rookie Deshaun Watson played very well in the first preseason game and his play could change the minds of coaches quickly.

The offensive plays will be called by O’Brien this season after going No. 29 in total yards and No. 31 in red zone offense last season.

Without a strong quarterback the past few seasons, the Texans have relied on running the ball. Lamar Miller returns from a 1,073-yard season last year, while rookie D’Onta Foreman, who had over 2,000 yards rushing at Texas last season, will push Miller for playing time.

DeAndre Hopkins will lead the receiving corps, with Braxton Miller and Will Fuller completing a sound corps.

Mike Vrabel is the new defensive coordinator while Romeo Crennel will be the assistant head coach, after he led the defense to No. 1 last season.

With Watt back healthy again and Jadeveon Clowney with one more year of experience and maturity under his belt, the Houston defense could be better than last season.

With Watt at one end and Clowney at the other, D.J. Reader will be the nose tackle which might represent the best defensive line in football.

Benardrck McKinney and Whitney Mercilus are the two top linebackers and Brian Cushing is back for his ninth season and represents the unit’s heart and soul.

The secondary will have Kevin Johnson back after he went down last season with a season ending injury, but A.J. Bouye was lost to free agency. Both Kareem Jackson and Johnathan Joseph have started 6 seasons at cornerback giving the Texans an experienced secondary.

If Houston can get average to above average play from their quarterback, the AFC South title is theirs. If not second place might even be a struggle.

Houston odds

AFC South – 9 to 4

AFC Championship – 9 to 1

Super Bowl LII – 30 to 1

Texans vs Colts Free Pick

Week 14 of the NFL regular season features an important AFC South showdown when the Houston Texans visit the Indianapolis Colts. The current line on top sportsbooks has Indianapolis favored by 6.5 points with the over/under point total on 46.5.

Entering this game, Houston has an overall record of the season of 6-6 straight up and 5-6-1 against the spread. On the road, the Texans are 1-4 SU and ATS. Indianapolis on the season has an overall record of 6-6 SU and 6-5-1 ATS. At home, the Colts are 3-3 SU and ATS.

The AFC South is a battle between three teams Houston, Indianapolis and the Tennessee Titans. All three teams are tied for first at 6-6. Houston, who has beaten Tennessee and Indianapolis once, can clinch a tiebreaker with the Colts with a win on Sunday.

However, the Texans are playing poorly coming into this game. Houston has lost three straight due to a mediocre offense, led by quarterback Brock Osweiler. The Colts offense has returned to high gear as signal caller Andrew Luck has returned from concussion protocol.    › Continue reading

Texans vs Packers Free Pick

Week 13 of the NFL regular season has a matchup between two teams battling for a spot in the postseason when the Green Bay Packers host the Houston Texans. The current line on top sportsbooks has Green Bay favored by 6.5 points with the over/under point total sitting on 45.5

Green Bay has a small margin for error in its attempt to reach the playoffs and its problem with injuries is making life much more difficult. Houston is in a more fortunate situation as the AFC South leader, but enters this game on a two-game losing streak.

Green Bay went through a stretch of allowing over 38 points per game while losing four straight, but turned that around with a 27-13 victory last Monday at Philadelphia. From star quarterback Aaron Rodgers down to the end of the roster, the Packers know they simply must win.    › Continue reading

Texans vs Broncos Free Pick

Week 7 of the NFL regular season concludes with Monday Night Football when the Houston Texans visit the Denver Broncos. The current line on most top sportsbooks has Denver favored by 8 points with the over/under point total sitting on 40.5.

Brock Osweiler was a big part of Denver reaching the Super Bowl last season, but opted to leave the Broncos for Houston in free agency and returns to face his former teammates and fans following his best performance thus far with the Texans.

Last season Osweiler was 5-2 as a starter in place of Peyton Manning who was injured and then retired following the Broncos Super Bowl win. With Osweiler in Houston, Trevor Siemian took over as the No. 1 signal caller for Denver. The Broncos started strong under Siemian but have lost two straight.    › Continue reading
