MLB Free Pick Philadelphia at Miami

tomMay 7, 2016 – Miami is really on a roll right now and Philly, who loomed large for most of this young season can’t buy a win. Philly has lost its third straight on Friday at Miami in game one of that same series. Meanwhile, Miami has won four straight games including a sweep of Arizona and game one vs. Philly.

Miami is favored -130 and would be favored by more here if it weren’t for starting pitcher Tom Koehler’s horrific ERA. He is 2-3 with a 7.25 Earned Run Average. He faces Jeremy Hellickson who is 2-2 and has a 4.88 ERA. › Continue reading

Miami Heat at San Antonio Spurs Free Pick

The Heat are in San Antonio to take on the Spurs tonight. The game starts at 8:30 PM EST, which is just an hour and a half away from me writing this. So, I will keep it short and sweet so as to get this pick out there.

Miami is playing very well as of late with the superstars of the teams closing ranks behind a hurt Chris Bosh who is not expected to return this season. You have Wade leading the scoring, Dragic leading with the assists and Whiteside cleaning up the boards. This is a new three headed monster Miami has created and it is coming together nicely under Pat Riley’s tutelage.

Simply put, Miami is 9-3 SU in their last 12 games. They just handled New Orleans on the road easily last night. They are 10-4 in their last 14 on the road. These road stats should give them a chance to hang in there against the juggernaut that are the Spurs.

The Spurs are only 3-7 in their last 10 games ATS (against the spread). Who knows, maybe this is the preview for the NBA Finals. Stranger things have happened. Much stranger. Take the Heat plus the 11 points. (Heat +11)

NCAA Free Pick – Miami vs. Nebraska

nebThe Nebraska Cornhuskers travel to Miami to take on the Hurricanes in Miami this Saturday at 3:30PM ET in what’s looking like might be a wet and not-so-sunny southern Florida day.  It’s a classic matchup between two storied programs who are looking to regain the relevance and juggernaut status they both held not so long ago.  The two teams have met a total of 11 times. Nebraska has a slight edge on the all-time series, leading 6-5. Before their 10-point victory over the Hurricanes in Lincoln, NE last year, they hadn’t met since the 2002 Rose Bowl.  Miami dominated 37-17 and claimed the National title that year.  Miami is a home favorite, with a point spread of -3.  The total is listed at 57.5  Expect the husker faithful – who are expected to have a strong presence in Sun Life Stadium – to shave some of the edge off of that home-field advantage.

Football Betting — Is the Jets-Titans Game Really the “Loser Bowl”?

By Charles Jay

Can Geno Smith do anything to keep his job?

Can Geno Smith do anything to keep his job?

What is going to happen eventually with the Tennessee Titans and New York Jets? Will either one of them be using the same quarterback at this time next year? Perhaps questions like that are going to be answered on Sunday, when these teams meet up in football betting action that is set to begin at 4:05 PM ET at LP Field in Nashville.

BetAnySports customers recognize that the Jets may be close to the end of its rope with Geno Smith, who was a second-round draft pick last year and has been prone to mistakes ever since he put on a Jets uniform. Yes, the possibility is that he was made an NFL starter too early, because general manager John Idzik wanted it that way. And maybe he is going to sink head coach Rex Ryan right along with him. But here he is, and he just hasn’t worked out. Last season he had 12 TD’s and 21 interceptions, and this season he has an 8-12 ratio of TD’s to INT’s. In this day and age, that just doesn’t do. And it may not matter that the team has been more competitive since he was re-inserted into the lineup. › Continue reading

NFL Betting Lines — Should Jim Harbaugh Even Still Be the Niners’ Coach in Wake Of Gutless Effort?

By Charles Jay

Is Jim Harbaugh taking a dive?

Is Jim Harbaugh taking a dive?

If you have taken a look at the way the San Francisco 49ers have performed over the last several weeks, you would wonder if this team was even bringing an offensive game plan to the table. They have been absolutely morbid on that side of the football, and much of that is a reflection of the situation regarding Jim Harbaugh, who is the team’s head coach, at least until the end of the season.

On Sunday, the 49ers will try to stay alive in the NFC playoff race (or will they?) as they line up to face the Seattle Seahawks, who are still trying hard and driving toward an opportunity to repeat as the NFC West champions, in NFL betting action that is scheduled to begin at 4:25 PM ET at CenturyLink Field.

The Niners are coming off a 24-13 loss to the Oakland Raiders that was no less than one of the most shameful, gutless efforts any NFL team has put forward in many years. They made a rookie quarterback (Derek Carr) look like a champion, as he completed 22 of 28 passes, and showed absolutely no imagination in the offense. › Continue reading

Monday Night Football Betting — Packers and Falcons Launch Ready For the Aerial Assault at Lambeau

By Charles Jay

Aaron Rodgers faces the 32nd-ranked Atlanta defense on Monday night.

Aaron Rodgers faces the 32nd-ranked Atlanta defense on Monday night.

The Green Bay Packers, it can be argued, are the hottest team in the NFL right now. So what is the likelihood that they will go flat against the Atlanta Falcons? Certainly it can be a daunting task to face your third division-leading opponent in a span of four games (yes, Atlanta DOES lead a division), but the Packers like to think they are equal to that assignment. BetAnySports customers will find out as these two teams get together for Monday night football betting action that gets underway at 8:30 PM ET at Lambeau Field.

The Packers are 9-3 straight-up and lead the NFC North, but it is only by a half-game over the Detroit Lions, who beat Tampa Bay yesterday, so before they start looking ahead to that season finale against Detroit and gaining home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs, they have to take care of business on Monday to avoid falling into a first-place tie in the division. Atlanta, believe it or not, faces that same situation, as they lead the New Orleans Saints, who laid down at home against Carolina on Sunday, by a half-game in the NFC South. So if they were to pull the upset at Lambeau, they would be “in control” for a spot in the playoffs. › Continue reading

College Football Betting — Ohio State Hands Keys to Car-dale For Big Ten Title Game

By Charles Jay

Ohio State still harbors ideas of getting into the football playoff, but those hopes will rest on the shoulders of Cardale Jones.

Ohio State still harbors ideas of getting into the football playoff, but those hopes will rest on the shoulders of Cardale Jones.

The Ohio State Buckeyes are riding a 10-game winning streak and are sitting in the #5 position in the college football playoff rankings. So BetAnySports patrons know they still have a lot of hope to get into the four-team scramble for the national championship. But if they are going to reach that goal, they will have to do it with their third-string quarterback, as Cardale Jones makes his first collegiate start amid the most pressure imaginable. Jones will lead the Buckeyes against the Wisconsin Badgers in college football betting action that will begin at approximately 8:15 PM ET at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The Big Ten championship is on the line, and it will be televised by the Fox Network.

Before the season, Ohio State took a big blow when quarterback Braxton Miller, the two-time Big Ten offensive player of the year, was declared out for the season with a shoulder injury. In stepped JT Barrett, who had not played before, and things were kind of shaky at the beginning, as Ohio State suffered an early loss to Virginia Tech. But Barrett came on like a freight train, rushing for 938 yards and accounting for 45 touchdowns overall as Ohio State went on to average 529 yards over their last ten games. But in the annual rivalry game against Michigan, Barrett broke his ankle, so the team had to turn to Cardale Jones, who comes into this title game having thrown only 17 passes in his collegiate career. And Ohio State is also currently mourning the loss of a player – walk-on defensive lineman Kosta Karageorge, who is suspected to have taken his own life, in a story we will undoubtedly hear more about.  › Continue reading

76ers vs. Spurs Free Pick

76ersEveryone is waiting for that first 76ers win. They are 0-16 and on the verge of becoming the worst team in NBA history. Many feel that the team is bad, knows its bad and is tanking so that they can get the number 1 overall draft pick next year. But what kind of strategy is that? Do they honestly think that one 19 year old player will save the team from the abyss of bad basketball? Or that one kid will come in and repair the damage done by this collection of terrible players?

The San Antonio Spurs are in town tonight to play these same hapless 76ers. The Spurs are the defending NBA champs and are a healthy 12-4 on the year. The Spurs get it done by allowing low scores (92 PPG) and scoring high (100 PPG), the oldest recipe for a win there is. Philadelphia averages just 90 points on offense and allows a whopping 110 points on defense. As you can see by doing the math if the teams played on a neutral court then the Spurs could be favored by as many as 22 points. Take away the customary 4 points for home court and this line could be Spurs -18. The 76ers don’t even deserve a home court advantage being factored in however, as nobody really comes to the games.

The linesmakers have the Spurs favored by only 13.5 here in the off chance that the 76ers wake up and play basketball. This could very well happen. But at just 13.5, when the line could easily be 18, I cannot help but suggest taking the Spurs here.

NFL Betting Preview — Slumping Saints Have to Deal with Elements Against Steelers

By Charles Jay

Troy Polamalu will try to disrupt Drew Brees and the Saints on Sunday.

Troy Polamalu will try to disrupt Drew Brees and the Saints on Sunday.

Are the New Orleans Saints going through a dry spell? Well, we can tell BetAnySports customers this much: they have lost three straight games at home, and for quite some time, that was unheard of. Seemingly through the grace of God, not to mention the ineptitude of their NFC South rivals, they are still tied for a division lead. On Sunday they have to get the job done on the road, as they take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in NFL betting action that is slated to begin at 1 PM ET at Heinz Field.

The Saints had a streak of twenty straight victories at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome with Sean Payton as their head coach (remembering, of course, that he was out for the entire 2012 season). And then they lost consecutively to the San Francisco 49ers, Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens. The signs may have been there, considering the lackluster win over the Minnesota Vikings and the come-from-behind overtime victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But then there was the resounding (44-23) win over the Green Bay Packers, perhaps creating an illusion. On the road, New Orleans has won only at Carolina, so this is obviously a big challenge. At 4-7 (both straight-up and against the spread) they are tied with the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC South standings. Yes, that’s right. › Continue reading
