Packers vs Cowboys Free Pick

Dallas needs Ezekiel Elliott to come up big on Sunday to cover against Green BayWeek 5 of the NFL regular season is highlighted with an NFC Showdown between two playoffs teams from last season when the Green Bay Packers visit the Dallas Cowboys. The current line on top sportsbooks has Dallas favored by 2.5 points with the over/under point total on 52.5.

Entering the game, Green Bay on the season is 3-1 straight up and 2-2 against the spread. On the road, the Packers are 0-1 SU and ATS. Dallas on the season is 2-2 SU and ATS. At home, the Cowboys are 1-1 SU and ATS.

Last season in mid-October the Cowboys dominated the Packers, but that loss was avenged by Green Bay in the playoffs during January. Dallas wants to avenge that postseason loss, its second to Green Bay in the last three years, when the two meet on Sunday.

Dallas must also forget the recent past, which includes squandering a lead of 11 points last week in a loss at home of 35-30 to the Los Angeles Rams.

Green Bay comes in with injuries to key players. Although the Packers have had 10 days to rest following their 35-14 rout of Chicago on a Thursday, the injuries still plague the team.

Running back Ty Montgomery broke his ribs while his replacement Jamaal Williams hurt his knee. Wide receiver Davante Adams was also knocked out of the game against Chicago with a concussion. Montgomery practiced this week wearing chest protection, but Adams remains in concussion protocol.

Aaron Rodgers threw for four touchdowns versus the Bears and his favorite target Jordy Nelson has caught five touchdowns in the three games he has played.

Dallas running back Ezekiel Elliott was the leading rusher in the NFL last season, but his output on the ground has dropped in his second season and Dallas is only averaging 114 yards per game rushing as compared to 149.7 yards per game on the ground last season.

Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott has eight touchdown passes and three interceptions. Wide receiver Dez Bryant caught 5 passes last week for 98 yards.

Defensively, Dallas is No. 20 against the pass, but Demarcus Lawrence has 7.5 sacks already after 4 games.

Elliott gained 282 yards on the ground in two games last season against Green Bay.

Rodgers has 300 yards or more passing in five of his past six road games for Green Bay.

Green Bay is 6-2 ATS in its last 8 games versus NFC opponents.

Dallas is 3-7 ATS in its last 10 games versus NFC opponents.

With this free pick, we like Dallas to cover.

Cowboys vs Cardinals Free Pick

Monday Night Football concludes Week 3 of the NFL regular season when the Dallas Cowboys visit the Arizona Cardinals in an NFC showdown. The current line on top sportsbooks has Dallas favored by 3 points with the over/under point total on 46.5

Entering this game, Dallas on the season is 1-1 straight up and against the spread. On the road, the Cowboys are 0-1 SU and ATS. Arizona on the season is 1-1 SU and 0-2 ATS. This will be the home opener for the Cardinals.

Ezekiel Elliott had his worst single game rushing last week with Dallas gaining just eight yards on the ground and looks to put that behind him when the Cowboys visit the Cardinals.

Last week the Cowboys were soundly beaten by Denver 42-17. Dallas could not establish a ground game and quarterback Dak Prescott had to attempt a career high 50 passes versus the Broncos defense.

While Dallas, struggled last week on the road, the Cardinals opened with two straight road games and look forward to hearing their home crowd when they face the Cowboys on Monday Night Football.

Arizona quarterback Carson Palmer has thrown just two touchdown passes, while giving up four interceptions in two games. Last week in Arizona’s OT win over Indianapolis, Palmer was sacked four times.

Cardinals wide out J.J. caught five passes for 120 yards. The Cardinals lost David Johnson their versatile running back Week 1 to injury, which has put more pressure on Palmer’s passing game.

Cowboys’ tight end Jason Whitten led the NFL in receptions entering Week 3 action with 17 and his two touchdown receptions were tied for second.

Dallas cornerback Orlando Scandrick should return from injury that caused him to miss the Denver game, while Nolan Carroll another Cowboys cornerback is in concussion protocol and is a game time decision by doctors.

Arizona wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald needs just 97 more receiving yards to move into eighth all-time in league history.

Dallas defensive end Demarcus Lawrence was tied for the league lead in sacks entering this week with four.

Arizona linebacker Karlos Dansby led the Cardinals in tackles last week with 10.

Dallas is 2-6 ATS in its last 8 games played.

Arizona is 4-11 ATS in its last 15 games at home.

With this free pick, we like Dallas to cover.

Dallas Cowboys 2017 Outlook

The Dallas Cowboys surprised the NFL in 2016 with their 13-3 regular season and an appearance in the postseason behind two rookies who fueled their offensive surge.

However, after last year’s success, some question whether the Cowboys can repeat in 2017 especially since they will have to play the first six games without the NFL’s leading rusher Ezekiel Elliott who was suspended by the NFL.

Dallas also lost 11 players to free agency and two retired. The 11 who left in free agency started a combined 546 games for Dallas.

Dak Prescott returns for his second year under center. The NFL rookie last year had one of the best years in NFL history for a first-year signal caller.

Elliott’s rushing total of 1,631 yards last season will be missed early, but the Cowboys should have the weapons to withstand his absence. Darren McFadden will fill in for Elliott. He rushed for 1,000 yards as recently as 2015.

The receiving corps of Dez Bryant, Cole Beasley, Terrance Williams and tight end Jason Whitten will give Prescott a number of targets to choose from while Elliott is serving his suspension and the passing game becomes more important.

The offensive line continues to be the NFL’s best with three of the five linemen earning All-Pro honors. The right tackle spot is open as Doug Free retired and that could be the only weak spot on the line.

Defensively the Cowboys did not sack the quarterback enough with just 36 last season. Taco Charlton was drafted during the first round but will be rotated in and out to start the season.

DeMarcus Lawrence had an off season last year and another back surgery, but he should start, while David Irving is suspended for the first four games.

Sean Lee returns to anchor the linebackers and was name as an All-Pro last season. Anthony Hitchens will anchor the middle of the linebackers and could be joined by Jaylon Smith who missed all of last year with a knee injury.

The secondary has been revamped after it lost Morris Claiborne and Brandon Carr at the corners and J.J. Wilcox and Barry Church at safeties.

Nolan Carroll was signed and three corners drafted giving them ample players to choose from.

Dallas without Elliott to start will take a step back, but expect them to rule the NFC East again.

Dallas Odds

NFC East – 5 to 4

NFC Championship – 6 to 1

Super Bowl LII – 14 to 1
