Vikings vs Bears Free Pick

Vikings visit Bears as 3.5-point chalk on MNFWeek 5 of the NFL regular season concludes with Monday Night Football when the Minnesota Vikings visit the Chicago Bears in an NFC North clash. The current line on top sportsbooks has Minnesota favored by 3.5 points with the over/under point total on 40.5.

Entering this game, Minnesota on the season is 2-2 straight up and against the spread. On the road, the Vikings are 0-1 SU and ATS. Chicago on the season is 1-3 SU and 2-2 ATS. At home, the Bears are 1-1 SU and 2-2 ATS.

Chicago has changed its quarterback, while Minnesota hopes to do the same Monday when these two rivals meet at famed Soldier Field. Mitchell Trubisky the No. 2 pick overall in the 2017 NFL draft will debut in the NFL at quarterback for the Bears.

The Vikings hope that starting quarterback Sam Bradford can return from a knee injury he suffered in the team’s season opener.

Trubisky said he was excited and ready to lead the Bears offense. He will have a difficult first game against a very aggressive Minnesota defense that recorded six sacks against Detroit’s Matthew Stafford in the Vikings 14-7 loss last Sunday to the Lions.

Minnesota was hit with a big blow last week when rookie running back Dalvin Cook torn his ACL. Against Detroit, quarterback Case Keenum threw for just 219 yards for the Vikings. Bradford practiced on a limited basis, but coaches said if he was ready he would get the starting nod.

Latavius Murray is now the top running back for Minnesota following Cook’s season ending injury. The former Oakland Raiders rusher said his ankle is still not 100% following surgery during the offseason. Vikings wide receiver Michael Floyd returns from a four-game suspension.

Bears running back Jordan Howard continues to run the ball often for the Bears and entering this week was No. 4 amongst rookies in yards from scrimmage with 331. He also leads all running backs in the league in receptions with 24.

On January 1, the Vikings beat the Bears 38-10 in the final game of the 2016 regular season.

Minnesota is 1-5 ATS in its last 6 games versus opponents from the NFC North.

Chicago is 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games versus opponents from the NFC.

With this free pick, we like Minnesota to cover.

Bears vs Packers Free Pick

Week 4 of the NFL regular season kicks off with Thursday Night Football when the Chicago Bears visit Lambeau Field to take on the Green Bay Packers in an NFC North showdown. The current line on top sportsbooks has Green Bay favored by 7 points with the over/under point total on 45.5.

Entering this game, Chicago on the season is 1-2 straight up and 2-1 against the spread. On the road, the Bears are 0-1 SU and ATS. Green Bay on the season is 2-1 SU and 1-2 ATS. At home, the Packers are 2-0 SU and 1-1 ATS.

Chicago comes into this shortened week off a huge upset win over the Pittsburgh Steelers 23-17, while Green Bay rallied to beat the Cincinnati Bengals at home 27-24. In the two head to head games last season, Green Bay beat Chicago by 3 at Soldier Field and by 16 at Lambeau Field.

Jordan Howard rushed for a 19-yard walk-off touchdown for Chicago over the Steelers, but only after the Bears had squandered a 17-7 lead. Setting up Howard’s touchdown run was a long run by Tarik Cohen just a few plays prior.

Howard ended the day with 138 yards on the ground and two touchdowns, while Cohen rushed for 78 yards. The running game is Chicago’s strength at the moment as injuries have hurt the receiving corps and quarterback Mike Glennon is only hitting on short passes.

Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who if not being sacked (6) was scrambling to find receivers due a lack of protection in the pocket, somehow brought the team back from a halftime deficit of 14 points to win.

Rodgers threw a touchdown pass to Jordy Nelson with just 17 second left in regulation to send the game to overtime. After Green Bay’s defense stopped the Bengals, Rodgers threw a 72-yard pass to Geronimo Allison to set up the winning field goal by Mason Crosby.

The running game is once again failing the Pack with just 64 yards on the ground against the Bengals. The Packers defense allowed 301 yards but came up big late. Safety Josh Jones had 12 tackles and 2 sacks.

Chicago is 2-7 ATS in its last 9 games on the road.

Green Bay is 5-1 ATS in its last 6 games played at home.

With this free pick, we like Green Bay to cover.

Bears vs Titans Free Pick

Preseason games are hard to predict, Week 3 preseason games are often a showcase for starters. On Sunday, the Chicago Bears visit the Tennessee Titans with the current line on top sportsbooks having Tennessee as 3-point chalk and the over/under point total on 43.5.

Chicago is 1-1 straight up and against the spread during the preseason, while Tennessee is 1-1 SU and ATS as well. The OVER has cashed in each of the Bears two preseason games, while the OVER is 1-1 in the two Titans preseason games.

Chicago lost to the Broncos before defeating the Cardinals this preseason, while the Titans beat the Jets before losing to the Panthers in their two preseason games.

Mitch Trubisky the rookie quarterback for the Bears will get an extended look this week against the Titans. Trubisky has played in both preseason games going a combined 18 for 25 for 166 yards, one touchdown and zero interceptions through the two games.

For Tennessee, quarterback Marcus Mariota should play at least the entire first half and possibly more. Mariota has thrown just 11 passes this preseason, but against Chicago that will dramatically change.

However, his top two wide receivers will not play as Corey Davis has an injured hamstring and Eric Decker an injured ankle.

The Bears behind Trubisky have done well, while the Tennessee defense has shown problems stopping opponents the first two weeks, which could spell trouble for the Titans this week.

Chicago in its past seven games overall is 5-2 against the number and 4-1 against the spread in is past 5 head to head with the Titans.

Tennessee is 14-36-3 in its last 53 games played. However, the Titans at this point will have their starters preparing for Week 1 of the regular season two weeks from Sunday and their talent is more than that of the Bears.

Look for a Titans win in a convincing fashion and a Bears loss that could be all more common during the regular season than Bears fans want to admit.

With this free pick, we like Tennessee to cover.

Chicago Bears 2017 Outlook

The Chicago Bears head coach John Fox will enter a critical season following a 3-13 record in 2016.

Most football pundits do not see the Bears any better this year on paper than last year when they ended with the worst 16-game record in franchise history.

Offensively, the Bears begin the post Jay Cutler era and will begin the Mike Glennon mini-era that will eventually give way to the Mitchell Trubisky era under center.

However, when Glennon’s time is up and if Trubisky fails, management and coaching changes will likely follow. The hope is that by next season if not before, Trubisky will take over.

The Bears have also signed Mark Sanchez a veteran quarterback as a backup. However, for now quarterback might be a weak link on the offense.

The Bears lost their best offensive weapon wide receiver Alshon Jeffery, but signed free agents Kendall Wright and Markus Wheaton who have NFL experience.

The Bears’ x-factor of the passing game will be Kevin White who runs a 4.35 40-yard dash, but did not play last season his rookie year due to surgery for shin splints followed by a broken leg.

Jordan Howard will lead the running game. Last season he set a Bears record for a rookie with 1,313 yards on the ground.

The offensive line is anchored by Pro Bowlers Cody Whitehair and Josh Sitton, with the hope that Kyle Long a former Pro Bowler can return to form after missing most of last season.

Defensively, the team hopes Akiem Hicks can repeat his excellent 2016 season. Hicks is 6-foot-5 and 336 pounds and is strong run defender, but also sacked the quarterback seven times.

At the linebacker spot the Bears return Jerrell Freeman and Danny Trevethan both of whom played well when on the field. Nick Kwiatkoski a rookie last season started due to injuries and will be much better with a year under his belt.

The secondary has been revamped following another poor season. Tracy Porter was released while veterans Marcus Cooper and Prince Amukamara were signed, along with Quintin Demps.

However, at the end of the day the Bears have far to go to compete for the NFC North so expect them to bring up the rear.

Chicago Odds

NFC North – 50 to 1

NFC Championship – 60 to 1

Super Bowl LII – 100 to 1

The Houston Texans open the Brock Osweiler era at home in Week 1 of the NFL regular season when they host the NFC North’s Chicago Bears. The current line on most sportsbooks has Houston favored by 5 points with the over/under point total sitting on 43.5.

Osweiler will start under center for the Texans. In addition, J.J. Watt the team’s All-Pro at defensive end will start despite sitting out all of preseason following his back surgery. Watt has played every regular season game during his career of five years. He had surgery last season after Houston lost in the playoffs.

Kyle Long one of Chicago’s starting offensive tackles will be tasked with controlling Watt. He anchors the offensive line that is charged with trying to keep Jay Cutler their quarterback healthy so he can play a full season, which he has not accomplished since 2009.
