Orlando Sinking Fast

The race for the post season in the Eastern Conference is in high gear. The difference between fourth place and eighth place is just four games and winning is the name of the game at this point. The Orlando Magic head north to face the Philadelphia 76ers April 7. Orlando has an overall record of 32-23 and has dropped all the way down to the sixth spot in the playoff race. Just a week ago, the Magic were in third place, but five consecutive losses has seen them plummet. The Magic are only 3-7 SU in their last 10 games played. The Magic are 14-12 on the road.

Philadelphia has not fared much better of late. The 76ers have an overall record of 29-25, have lost two straight and are 4-6 SU over their last 10 games played. The 76ers are 19-11 at home this season. For a long period, the 76ers were in first place in the Atlantic division, but they know find themselves in second place in the division and seventh in the playoff hunt in the East. The 76ers are one game behind the Boston Celtics for 1st place in the division and fourth place in the playoffs.

Orlando holds a big advantage 8-2 SU and ATS in the head to head matchup between both two teams. The total has been distributed even 5/5 in the OVER/UNDER. The teams have played one another twice this season. The 76ers defeated the Magic in the first matchup 74-69. In the second game, the Magic got their revenge and defeated Philadelphia 103-87 to cover a 3-point favorite spread.

The two teams are both trying to right the ship and get back to winning as they head for the playoffs. The Magic are in a free-fall and if they do not turn themselves around quickly, they may find themselves out of the playoff hunt completely. Take the Magic in this and the total to end UNDER.

Celtics vs. Heat Free Pick

The Miami Heat will travel to Beantown to take on the Boston Celtics on April 1. The Heat has won

Lebron

two straight and six of ten. They are in second place overall in the Eastern Conference and have the league’s third best record overall at 37-13. On the road, the Heat is 16-11 SU and against conference opponents, they are 28-7 SU

Boston has played much better of late. With their win on Friday night, they moved into first place in the Atlantic division. The Celtics have won four straight and seven of 10. They are in fourth place in the playoff race for the Eastern conference with an overall record of 29-22. They are 18-8 SU at home and 22-12 against conference foes.

Both clubs have two players nursing injuries. All four are backup players and will not affect the outcome of the game.

Miami leads the head to head matchup 6-4 SU over the last 10 games between the two teams. The total in those 10 games has been OVER 6 times and UNDER 4 times. This season the two met on the third day of the season. The game was played in Miami and the Heat defeated the Celtics 115-107. However, the Heat did not cover a 9-point spread. The total was 187 and paid out to over bettors as the two teams combined for 222 points.

Miami is 3-2 SU in their five games including a blowout victory against Dallas on Thursday night. The Celtics are 4-1 SU in their last five games, which has helped propel them past Philadelphia into first in the Atlantic.

This game should be close as long as the Celtics defense can slow down LeBron James and Dwayne Wade. The recent good play of Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce has helped the Celtics have a more balanced offensive attack. But the Heat are gearing up for a championship run and are really hard to beat right now. Take the Heat (-3). The score will be OVER.

76ers vs. Cavaliers NBA Free Pick

One team is fighting for a division title and a playoff berth and the other is looking to the future. The Philadelphia 76ers host the Cleveland Cavaliers at Wells Fargo Center on March 27. The 76ers have held the lead in the Atlantic division for much of the regular season. However, they are just two games in front of the Boston Celtics.

Philly has an overall record of 27-22 and are just 5-5 SU in their last 10 games played. They are in fourth place in the playoff race in the Eastern Conference. The Cavaliers are 17-29 overall and have lost three straight and six of their last 10. They are in 10th place in the playoff race in the east a full six games behind the eighth place New York Knicks.

Both teams have players on the injury list. The Cavaliers are without the services of Daniel Gibson who is day to day and Anderson Varejao who is out indefinitely with a wrist injury. The 76ers have Andre Iguodala listed as day to day with a knee injury.

Cleveland is 6-4 SU and ATS in the last 10 games the two teams have played head to head. The total

76ers

has been evenly distribute 5/5 between the OVER/UNDER in those same 10 games. The teams are averaging 202 points in each game and are separated by less than a point in average scoring in the 10 games. In the only matchup between the two teams this season, Philly beat Cleveland on Clevelands home court 99-84.

Cleveland is 1-4 SU in their last five games and 0-3 SU in their last three. They lost Sunday night at home to Phoenix by 25 points. The 76ers are 2-2 SU in their last four games, but won an important game over Boston last Friday at home by 13 points.

The 76ers need this victory more than the Cavaliers do. Look for Philly to take the game SU and ATS, with the total UNDER. Bet this now at BetRevolution

Illinois State vs. Stanford Free Picks

The Cardinal

A great postseason NIT matchup will pit the Illinois Redbirds against the Stanford Cardinal Monday March 19 at the Maples Pavilion in the tournament’s second round. The Redbirds won their last game by defeating the Rebels from Mississippi 96-93 in a high scoring affair. The Redbirds entered that game as a 6-point underdog and easily covered that spread with their 3-point victory.

Stanford won their last game March 13 against Cleveland State. The victory over Cleveland State was 76-65 and the Cardinal covered a 6-point favorite spread in the process. Overall Illinois State is 21-13 SU and 16-14 ATS this season. Stanford has a similar record of 22-11 SU and 16-14 ATS.

Both clubs have one player lost of the season due to injury. The Redbirds are 3-6 ATS over their last nine games playing away from home. The Redbirds are also just 5-16 SU over their last 21 games away from home. Stanford has won 4 of its last 6 game overall. The Cardinal are also 17-3 SU over their last 20 games playing at home.

The two teams have not played head to head recently. Illinois State is 4-1 SU over their last five games. Their only loss was to Creighton who is in the final 32 teams in the NCAA tournament. Stanford is 3-2 SU over their last five. The Cardinals’ last loss was to California in the season ending Pacific 12 tournament.

The current line has Stanford as a 7 1/2-point favorite with the total currently at 136. Stanford has played a much more difficult schedule than Illinois State. The balanced scoring attack of Stanford mixed with their tough defense will make it difficult for the Redbirds to work effectively on offense. The Cardinal will force the Redbirds into a number of needless turnovers. Smart money has Stanford minus the points with the total OVER. Check out our top sportsbooks for action on this game.

Kellen Moore
Boise State QB Kellen Moore

Oddsmakers currently have the Broncos listed as 15-point favorites versus the Sun Devils, while the game’s total is sitting at 69.

Arizona State was a 47-38 loser in its last match at home against California. They failed to cover the 6?point spread as favorites, while the total score of 85 sent OVER bettors to the payout window.

Boise State won its last outing, a 45-0 result against New Mexico on December 3. Boise State failed to cover in that game as a 47.5-point favorite, while the 45 combined points took the game UNDER the total.

SA Take: Arizona State plays tougher opponents and is in a better conference. They have a good football team. Boise State is ranked 7th in the nation. At first glance everything points to Bosie with an easy win and cover. The public thinks so too with more than 80% of them betting Boise State as well.  We have to go with Boise here but see if you can buy a point and bring this down to -13.5. Just in case it lands on 14 even.

NFL Week 15: Green Bay Packers at Kansas City Chiefs

Aaron Rodgers Quarterback
Green Bay Signal Caller

Can anyone stop the Packers? Green Bay enters its final road game of the season on a 19-game winning streak and can become the first defending Super Bowl champion – and third team ever – to start a season with 14 straight wins.

Kansas City, meanwhile, plays its first game since firing head coach Todd Haley. One season after they won the division title, the Chiefs got rid of their coach in a season in which he lost his best defensive player, his best offensive player and QB Matt Cassel.

Chiefs interim coach Romeo Crennel benched Tyler Palko to go with Kyle Orton, who is playing with a badly dislocated right index finger. If Orton struggles throwing, Crennel might use Ricky Stanzi, a rookie. Orton was claimed off waivers Nov. 23 after securing his release from the Broncos, for whom he started five games before giving way to Tim Tebow. Orton threw one pass for the Chiefs two weeks ago but injured the index finger on his passing hand, a problem that could still prevent him from playing in Week 15. Orton started earlier this year against Green Bay and had three TDs but also three picks as Denver was blown out.

The Packers will finish the regular season without No. 1 WR Greg Jennings. The former WMU star, who has a team-best 67 receptions for 949 yards and nine touchdowns, sprained his left knee in the third quarter last week and is expect to miss two to three weeks. Coach Mike McCarthy said the Pro Bowl receiver is likely to return for Green Bay’s divisional playoff game the weekend of Jan. 14-15.

While the loss of Aaron Rodgers’ favorite target is obviously a bit of an obstacle, Green Bay — which leads the league in scoring average (35.8) and has already set a franchise record with 466 points — has plenty of other offensive options. Few teams do a better job of using all available weapons in the passing game than the Packers. Rodgers is excellent at reading coverages and will take what the defense gives, forcing all of his receivers to stay ready on every play. Rodgers is quick to go through his progressions, and the second or third option has as much of a chance to end up with the ball as the primary target.

Sportsbook Advisor likes K.C. to cover the two touchdown spread.

Florida vs. Arizona College Basketball

Florida Basketball
Florida Basketball

The best matchup in college basketball on Wednesday night is easily in Gainesville, Fla., when the No. 12 Gators host Arizona in a matchup of the Pac-10 and SEC regular-season champions from a season ago. Both clubs have high NCAA Tournament expectations this season. The Gators are slight college basketball bets favorites on WagerWeb.com. This game is at 7 p.m. Eastern on ESPN.

Arizona (6-2) was in the Top 25 to start the season but losses to Mississippi State and San Diego State – two very good teams – dropped the Cats out. They have since won two straight, beating Northern Arizona 53-39 on Saturday for their 28th straight win over their in-state rivals.

Florida (5-2) has already played two Top-5 teams this year, losing by 7 at Ohio State and by 4 at Syracuse in the Gators’ last game on Dec. 2. UF, which entered that game shooting 42.9 percent from beyond the arc and was averaging 12 3-pointers a game, was just 9-for-26 from long range. Kenny Boynton led the team with 22 points. Five UF players averages in double-figures, led by Boynton’s 19.0 ppg average. Patric Young leads Florida with a 7.3 rebounds per game average.

The Gators will get a key player back for this one. Junior forward Erik Murphy, who missed the past three games with a knee injury, is expected to play. Murphy was averaging 10 points and 4 rebounds before he bruised his knee and aggravated a slightly torn meniscus he already had from high school. Murphy’s return adds size inside and another outside shooter. The Gators were outrebounded 40-33 in the loss at Syracuse on Friday, clearly missing Murphy’s inside presence.

This is UA’s first trip to the state of Florida since the 2009 NCAA Tournament’s first/second rounds in Miami. This game is the third meeting of the two schools with the teams split at one win apiece. Arizona won the first meeting, 75-71, on Nov. 9, 2001, in New York City and Florida captured the next, 78-77, on Nov. 28, 2003, in Springfield, Mass.

SA Take: We are taking Arizona +11

Wednesday NCAA basketball: San Diego State at No. 23 Arizona

Great matchup out west on Wednesday night as 2010-11 NCAA Tournament teams San Diego State and Arizona face off, with the Cats as modest college basketball bets favorites on WagerWeb.com.

SDSU (5-1) has already played three pretty good teams in Baylor, Southern Cal and Long Beach State, losing only to Baylor. Last time out, they beat LBSU (which won at Top-10 team Pittsburgh already this season) 77-73 in overtime. Jamal Franklin hit two free throws with 3.9 seconds left in overtime for the clinching points. Franklin scored 14 of his team-high 21 points after halftime for the Aztecs, who improved their home winning streak over unranked opponents to 47. James Rahon had 20 points and Xavier Thames scored eight of his 15 points in overtime for San Diego State.

The Aztecs have good memories of Arizona’s McKale Center, at least last year. They were sent there for the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament and beat Northern Colorado and Temple to advance to the Sweet 16, the only NCAA Tournament victories in school history. However, SDSU has lost all seven trips to 38-year-old McKale against Arizona, which was 17-0 there last season.

Starters Chase Tapley, Thames and Tim Shelton all sat out of practice Monday, and Franklin ended it with an ice bag on his nose. All four, however, are expected to be ready for Wednesday. Tapley hurt his hand and was scheduled to get precautionary X-rays. Thames was being rested with a bad back. Franklin took a knock in his nose and was having that X-rayed as well. And Shelton, after playing five games in seven days, was getting his customary practice off to save his knees.

The Aztecs received votes in both the latest Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today polls released Monday. They had 12 votes in the AP, putting them 34th overall. They had eight votes from the coaches, the same as Long Beach State and Illinois, and were tied for 38th.

The No. 23 Wildcats (4-1) look to get back on the winning side of the ledger after suffering its first loss last Friday. The Cats fell 67-57 at Madison Square Garden to Mississippi State. Solomon Hill had 12 points and nine rebounds for Arizona, while Jesse Perry had 11 points and 10 rebounds. Last year, Arizona was 6-1 in games immediately following a defeat.

This will be the 27th meeting of the two schools with Arizona holding a 20-6 advantage in the series, which dates back to Dec. 27, 1945. The Aztecs won the last meeting, 63-46, in San Diego on Dec. 12, 2009. Prior to that game, UA had won seven straight and 12 of 13 in the series. All-time, Arizona is 14-1 in series games played in Tucson, 6-5 in San Diego, and 0-0 in neutral-site games.

SA Take: We are leaning toward taking SD State plus the 6 1/2 points. Both teams are very good and it could go either way.
