Tonight’s matchup between St. Mary’s and Gonzaga is an interesting one to say the least. You have the #1 team in the country, Gonzaga, vs. a team with a great record that is unranked and is in the same conference. In fact, two of St. Mary’s only 5 losses came against this Gonzaga team; one was by 5 points and the other by 17. Other than Gonzaga, St. Mary’s has lost to Pacific, Northern Iowa and Georgia Tech. They have virtually no impressive wins on their schedule except maybe the win at BYU. That is a borderline impressive victory. All of their games have been against the west coast teams that don’t do well against the big conferences. The other wins are against Ivy league schools and I don’t need to elaborate why those are unimpressive.
Gonzaga has victories against West Va., Clemson, Oklahoma, Kansas State and Baylor. They deserve to be #1 having played and won so many out of conference games. Their big man Kelly Olynyk scores 17 points per game and they will need him tonight in full force to beat a very motivated St. Mary’s team. I think St. Mary’s feels like they are the younger brother that is good but always gets beat by big brother. They think tonight will be their big chance. This is St. Mary’s chance to do something for their program. › Continue reading
The top-seed rank in the NCAA seems to be on a conveyor belt with different teams getting to enjoy the status for a few weeks before another team takes over and so on and so forth.
This tells us that no team is that sure to cop the national title. But as usual, there will always be those teams that are considered the favorites to win it.
And then there are those teams that are just playing the remaining games of their season with no legitimate shot at entering the tournament, but have been rewarding bettors with handsome dividends when it comes to betting on the spreads. › Continue reading

At 12:00 noon EST Villanova is in Pittsburgh to take on the Panthers. Oddsmakers have Pitt -9. As of the time of writing this article the game has been on the baord for 5 hours and the public thus far has bet it evenly.
Villanova comes in with a 18-11 record SU and is 17-9 ATS. Pitt is 22-7 and is 12-11 ATS. The teams match up well. Both teams score about 69 points on offense. The difference between them is Pitt’s ability to play defense. They allow only 54 points to Nova’s 64 ppg. That alone on a neutral court would make Pitt 5 point favorites. Mix in the home court advantage of Pitt and you get the full 9 point favorite result. The injury report shows two healthy teams entering this contest. › Continue reading
Tonight at 10:00 pm EST we have a great NHL Hockey matchup. The Detroit Redwings are in LA to take on the Kings. Oddmakers have made the Kings at home -150 (1.5/1) favorites. The total is 5 goals with the over favored -130.
The Kings come into this game with a 9-6-2 record and are dead last in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference. This fact shows how good this conference is playing right now. LA is averaging 2.65 goals score per game and allowing an average of 2.41. You can see that the average margin of victory hasn’t been astounding. LA is coming in with a four game win streak having just defeated powerhouse Anaheim 5-2. If you bet the Kings every game this year you would just be slightly above even money. They have been a tough team to figure out thus far. › Continue reading

Marquette comes into this game at 19-6 SU and 11-10 ATS. They are coming off big wins vs Pitt and at Seton Hall. Tonight February 14, 2013 if you are not busy romancing your lady you should tune into the epic matchup of Gonzaga at St. Mary’s. These are two teams that play each other tough and always leave it on the floor. Think West Coast UNC vs. Duke. Oddsmakers essentially have this game at a pick although some of the books have Gonzaga -1.
Gonzaga comes in nationally ranked at #10. They are 23-2 and 10-0 in their conference. Against the spread the Zags are 12-10-1. The team drops 78 points per game on their opponents and are lead in scoring by Kelly Olynyk who scores right under 18 points per game. They only allow 61 points per game on defense. In fact, they have won their last six straight games and held the last 8 teams under 65 points.
St. Mary’s comes in looking very similar statistically. They average 77 points per game on offense and allow 64 points per game. They are 21-4 SU and 12-11 ATS. They are lead in scoring my Matthew Dellavedova who scores 16 per game. › Continue reading
Sunday NBA Free Pick: February 10, 2013 3:30 PM EST. The Los Angeles Lakers are running out of time to even qualify for the Western Conference playoffs, granted, but that doesn’t mean their upcoming matchup with the reigning champion Miami Heat isn’t the most anticipated clash on the basketball moneyline this season. Get NBA odds for when Kobe Bryant and company look to prove that there’s still hope for their season yet.
Although they’ve played better of late, L.A. has plenty of work to do before they make a serious run at the postseason. Despite it all, their NBA futures, though considerably lower than they were at the beginning of the season, remain among the league’s elite.
Miami, in contrast, has led the pack all season and never looked back. No mid-season losing streaks, no slow starts; nothing but a repeat campaign spearheaded admirably by likely-repeat MVP LeBron James. › Continue reading
