Mexico vs United States Free Pick

The United States Men’s National Soccer team will have to improve its play on Sunday at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, when it faces Mexico in a CONCACAF World Cup qualifier. The current line on top sportsbooks has Mexico favored at -110, the U.S. at +315 with a draw on +225.

On Thursday, the U.S. defeated Trinidad & Tobago 2-0 in a qualifier thanks to two second half goals from new U.S. star Christian Pulisic. The 18-year old now has 7 goals in just 15 career international caps.

Pulisic has either scored or assisted on 7 of the last 8 American goals and says he will not have any problem playing the full 90 minutes.

The U.S. team will have had only two days rest following its Thursday night win in Colorado over T&T, which moved the team into third place in the CONCACAF Hex qualifying standings. The first three places automatically qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Bruce Arena the U.S. coach said he was planning changes in the lineup due to the quick turnaround of the two important matches.

Clint Dempsey is one goal away from tying for the American record in career goals of 57 held by Landon Donovan, but may be rotated out. Dempsey was upset he was taken out on Thursday in the 61st minute by Arena.

Not only will the U.S. being playing against a very talented Mexico side but the hostile crowd, city smog and at times high heat make Azteca Stadium one of the biggest home field advantage in soccer. The stadium formerly had a capacity of 120,000, but that has been reduced to 87,000 due to renovations.

In Mexico City, the U.S. prior to a winning 1-0 in an exhibition match five years ago, was 0-19-1 and outscored 81 to 14.

Often times this match in Mexico has started under the intense sun of midday but the match on Sunday will kick off at 8:30 p.m. ET, which could be a slight advantage to the U.S.

In qualifying matches in Azteca the U.S. has earned just two points. In 1997 and 2013, they fought to 0-0 draws. The 1997 match was during the day, while the 2013 match was at night.

The two sides met to open the Hexagonal in Columbus, Ohio last November with Mexico winning 2-1 and handing the U.S. its first loss at home in qualifying in 16 years.

Mexico will be without Andres Guardado a midfielder and Miguel Layun and Rafael Marquez two defenders. Carlos Salcedo, who was hurt Thursday, will also miss out for Mexico.

With this free pick, we like a draw.

Chicago Fire vs Sporting Kansas City Free Pick

Major League Soccer action takes center stage on Wednesday when the Chicago Fire hosts Sporting Kansas City at Toyota Stadium in Week 19 of the MLS season. The current line has Chicago at 13 to 9 to win, Sporting KC at 11 to 5 to win and a draw at 25 to 11.

These two rivals meet for just the first and only time this season. The Fire is returning home at the bottom of the Eastern Conference following a loss of 1-0 to Toronto FC over the weekend. Chicago has 14 points on 16 matches.

Cuba vs Guatemala Gold Cup Free Pick

The Gold Cup continues on Wednesday with a battle between Cuba and Guatemala with both teams fighting for a spot in the knockout round. The current line has Guatemala at 2 to 5 to win, Cuba at 8 to 1 to win and a draw 7 to 2.

Cuba is a huge underdog in this match but Cuba arguably has an opportunity to pull off an upset and move onto the next round. In Cuba’s first match, the club was hammered 6-0 by Mexico, while in match 2 they lost to Trinidad and Tobago 2-0.

A win on Wednesday would put Cuba into the knockout stage and the club will need the talented striker Reyes to come through in this all important match. The big question is can he and his fellow players create enough opportunities on goal to score and win this match.

Guatemala is coming off the tournaments biggest performance as they stifled the Mexico offense in their second match holding the tri-color to a 0-0 draw. During the second half of their first match versus Trinidad, Guatemala played strong, but were outplayed so much in the first half falling down 3-0 at the break that the club could not fight back and lost 3-1.    › Continue reading

United States vs Panama Gold Cup Free Pick

The Gold Cup continues Monday with the last round of matches in Group A, when the United States plays Panama. The U.S. has already booked its ticket to the knockout stages but it seems that manager Jurgen Klinsmann will field his top players nonetheless for Monday match.

Klinsmann wants his club to find more rhythm on the pitch and finish the group stage with three victories. He also knows the outcome of the Monday match will influence what other club goes through and therefore wants to keep his No. 1 team on the pitch.

Panama currently sits second in the group with just 2 points and is battling to move to the next round. The latest odds have the U.S. -1 (-130) in goal difference. The moneyline has the U.S. favored at -185, with Panama at +450 and a draw sitting on +300. The last match the two clubs played head to head was in October of 2013 with the U.S. winning 3-2. The U.S. scored a late stoppage time goal eliminating Panama from World Cup qualifying and sending Mexico to the tournament.

Panama would go through to the knockout stages with a win against the U.S. A draw or loss would mean the club would need help from the other clubs in the group. In its first match, Panama allowed a late Haiti goal for a 1-1 draw. In its second match versus Honduras, Panama finished with another 1-1 draw. The U.S. has had flashes of brilliance yet stretches of poor play. The club has yet to play a complete 90 minutes of good solid soccer.   › Continue reading
