Falcons vs Lions Free Pick

Week 3 of the NFL regular season features an NFC matchup in the Motor City when the Atlanta Falcons visit Ford Field to take on the Detroit Lions. The current line on top sportsbooks has Atlanta favored by 3.5 points with the over/under point total on 50.5.

Entering this game, Atlanta on the season is 2-0 straight up and 1-1 against the spread. On the road, the Falcons are 0-1 SU and ATS. Detroit on the season is 2-0 SU and ATS. At home, the Lions are 1-0 SU and ATS.

Atlanta arrives at this game after defeating Chicago to open the season and Green Bay last week. The defending NFC South champion Falcons hope to return to the NFC championship once again this season and have started the season well.

This is the first time in 6 seasons that Detroit has started 2-0. A pleasant surprise early this season, has been the strength of the Lions defense. The front seven has made the defense one of the best versus the run thus far.

The balanced offense of Atlanta led by reigning MVP quarterback Matt Ryan will test the Detroit defense. Devonta Freeman has given Atlanta as excellent running attack to complement the passing skills of Ryan.

The last two times Atlanta has played Detroit, Ryan has a combined 507 passing yards, 6 touchdowns and just 1 interception. Although, through the first two games this season, the offense for the Falcons has not been as explosive as last season.

However, last week against the Packers, Freeman had 84 rushing and two touchdowns. The Atlanta loves to pressure the quarterback, but will be without Vic Beasley Jr. who has an injured hamstring.

Detroit is No. 4 in the NFL against the run, but is weak against the pass, despite having a strong pass rush thus far. Offensively, quarterback Matthew Stafford has only passed for a combined 414 through the first two games, but has six touchdown passes which ties for the league lead.

Ryan has thrown at least one touchdown pass in 21 straight games.

Stafford, in his last 15 games at home, has thrown 32 touchdown passes and just six interceptions.

Atlanta is 8-2 ATS in its last 10 games on the road dating back to last season.

Detroit is 2-5 ATS in its last 7 games against NFC opponents.

With this free pick, we like Detroit to cover.
