Steelers vs Browns Free Pick

September 08, 2017

Week 1 of the NFL continues Sunday with a big AFC North showdown when the Pittsburgh Steelers visit the Cleveland Browns. The current line on top sportsbooks has Pittsburgh favored by 9 points with the over/under point total on 47.

Pittsburgh will have its top three skills players back for the season as quarterback Ben Roethlisberger returns, wide receiver Antonio Brown has extended his contract and running back Le’Veon Bell ended his training camp holdout. Bell is expected to play, but not as much as usual due to only being in training camp less than a week.

Cleveland will be without its top pick Myles Garrett. The Browns picked the defensive end first overall in the draft, but he suffered a high ankle sprain and will miss Sunday’s opener. The Browns know that strong defense is the only way to slow down the Steelers, but will begin the season without Garrett.

Pittsburgh was No. 16 in passing defense in the NFL last season giving up over 243 yards per game, but added Joe Haden a former Pro-Bowler with Cleveland to sure up its secondary.

Another big upgrade for Pittsburgh on defense was T.J. Watt their first round draft choice, who is the younger brother of J.J. Watt the Pro-Bowler with Houston. He played well during preseason and will see plenty of action at outside linebacker. The new defensive additions will help the Steelers in defense of their AFC North title.

DeShone Kizer is another rookie for Cleveland who was ready to start at the next level. The second round draft pick out of Notre Dame will be Cleveland’s starting quarterback on Sunday. Kizer will take the reins of an offense that was No. 30 last season and averaged just a paltry 16.5 points per game. In addition, the Browns lost Terrelle Pryor their top wide receiver from last season to free agency.

Pittsburgh offensive tackle Jerald Hawkins did not practice Thursday due to a knee injury.

Cleveland released safety Calvin Pryor Thursday after he had been involved with a fight during practice with Ricardo Louis a teammate.

The Steelers have won the past four straight against the Browns.

Pittsburgh is 4-1-1 against the spread in its past 6 games played on grass.

Cleveland is 1-5-1 ATS in its last 7 games played on grass.

With this free pick, we like Pittsburgh to cover.
