Georgia vs Notre Dame Free Pick

September 07, 2017

Week 2 of the college football regular season features a big showdown in South Bend, Indiana when the No. 15 ranked Georgia Bulldogs visit the No. 25 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The current line on top sportsbooks has Notre Dame favored by 4 points with the over/under point total on 57.5.

Both Georgia and Notre Dame on the season are 1-0 straight up and against the spread having each won and covered their opening games of the season last weekend. Last Saturday Georgia beat Appalachian State 31-10, while Notre Dame easily beat Temple 49-16.

Georgia did not play that well in their win last Saturday committing two turnovers and gaining just 368 yards of total offense. The big question following the game is if the Bulldogs have a quarterback controversy.

Jacob Eason left after just throwing three passes before spraining his knee. Brice Ramsey came in and went 0-for-2 throwing a pair of interceptions, before Jake Fromm a freshman took over completing 10 of his 15 passes for 143 yards with one touchdown.

Fromm will likely start if Eason remains injured. Nick Chubb and Sony Michel combined to rush for 177 yards and 2 touchdowns for Georgia, while Javon Wims caught three passes for 87 yards and one touchdown.

Notre Dame led by 18 points after the first quarter against Temple and never looked back. The Irish gained 606 yards on offense while allowing 330 on defense.

Brandon Wimbush started under center for the Irish completing 17 of his 30 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for over 100 yards. Josh Adams and Dexter Williams combined to rush for 285 yards and three touchdowns.

In all, the Irish rushed for 422 yards and five touchdowns averaging 9.5 yards per carry.

A pair of unproven quarterbacks could battle in this game if Eason cannot play for Georgia. If Georgia starts Fromm, the running tandem of Chubb and Michel will see even more action as the Georgia offense will look to grind it out on the ground and not risk turnovers.

Home field advantage will play a big role if Fromm starts as he will be facing the raucous South Bend fans.

Georgia is 1-4 against the number in its last 5 games played during September.

Norte Dame is 2-6 against the spread in its last 8 games versus an opponent with a record above .500.

With this free pick, we like Notre Dame to cover.
