Alabama vs Florida State Free Pick

September 02, 2017

The first Saturday of college football is capped off with a great showdown between top ranked teams when the No. 1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide plays the No. 3 ranked Florida State Seminoles at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.

The current line on top sportsbooks has Alabama favored by 7 points with the over/under point total currently on 50.

Both teams are contenders for the national championship and jumpstart the season with a much anticipated season opener. Alabama under head coach Nick Saban has won four national championships while Florida State has one under Jimbo Fischer.

Alabama lost in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game in January to Clemson 35-31. Saban wants to put that loss behind he and the returning players from last season and nothing would do that easier than a win in a huge season opener.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts, now a sophomore, was an all-round threat his freshman season for Alabama throwing for 2,780 yards and 23 touchdowns, while rushing for 954 yards and another 13 touchdowns on the ground. His favorite target will be Calvin Ridley who caught 72 passes last season.

Defensively the Tide lost a number of top players, but Minkah Fitzpatrick a safety returns while Raekwon Davis the starting defensive end is doubtful.

Florida State is led by Deondre Francios their sophomore quarterback. Last season he threw for 3,350 yards, 20 touchdowns and 7 interceptions.

The Seminoles must find a replacement for running back Dalvin Cook who is now in the NFL and Jacques Patrick will get his opportunity on Saturday. Last season Patrick rushed for 350 yards.

Defensively, top safety Derwin James is 100% after playing only two games all of last season due to injuring his knee. However, Matthew Thomas a senior at linebacker could miss as he has not practiced for three weeks.

Alabama is 2-1-1 head to head with Florida State but the two have not met since 2007.

Under Fisher, Florida State is 9-1 versus SEC opponents.

Alabama running back Bo Scarbrough has rushed for 90 yards or more in 4 straight games.

Alabama is 7-3 against the spread in its last 10 games played.

Florida State 4-0 against the number in its last 4 games played.

With this free pick, we like Alabama to cover.
