Major League Baseball action on Monday is highlighted with a showdown in northern California when the Chicago Cubs visit the San Francisco Giants. The current line on top sportsbooks has Chicago favored at -190, San Francisco on +175 and the over/under run total on 8.

Entering the game, Chicago on the season is 58-52 overall and 29-26 on the road. The Cubs are 5-5 in their last 10 games played. San Francisco on the season is 44-69 overall and 25-31 at home. The Giants are 4-6 in their last 10 games played.

San Francisco played spoiler against one team contending for the postseason in their last series and look to do the same against Chicago starting Monday. The Cubs come to the West coast leading Milwaukee by a half game in the National League Central after going 1-4 in their last five games.

San Francisco won two out of three against Arizona including Sunday’s 6-3 win. The Giants have been plagued with injuries and have brought in young players to get big league experience, but are playing well said manager Bruce Bochy.

The Giants have won six of their past nine games at home against Chicago, but the Cubs are 11-1 in their last 12 games on the road.

Chicago will send Jake Arrieta to the mound on Monday. The Cubs right-hander is 10-8 with an ERA of 3.88. San Francisco will counter with Matt Moore. The Giants left-hander is 3-11 with an ERA of 5.80.

Arrieta lost his last time out against Arizona on Wednesday, after limiting the Diamondbacks to just one earned run in seven innings while striking out eight. His ERA over his past three six starts is 2.08.

Moore has not won in seven starts dating back to June 20. Last Wednesday, the southpaw allowed six hits and four runs across five innings resulting in a loss against the Oakland Athletics.

Chicago catcher Willson Contreras hit two homers on Sunday and has hit 10 since returning from the All-Star break.

San Francisco outfielder Hunter Pence has 11 hits in 32 at bats during his current hitting streak of eight straight games.

Chicago is 11-1 in its last 12 games on the road.
