Yankees vs Red Sox Free Pick

Sunday Night Baseball features an American League East showdown when the New York Yankees visit the Boston Red Sox for the second game of a day-night doubleheader. The current line on top sportsbooks has Boston favored at -135, New York on +125 and the over/under run total on 8.5.

Entering this game, New York on the season is 46-42 overall and 20-25 on the road. The Yankees are 3-7 in their last 10 games played. Boston on the season is 51-40 overall and 26-15 at home. The Red Sox are 5-5 in their last 10 games played.

Both teams will be tired in this game as the two played 16 innings on Saturday before the Yankees finally won and will have played a day game beginning at 1:00 p.m. prior to this contest.

The Yankees used a home run by Matt Holliday in the ninth inning to tie on Saturday and then scored three runs in the 16th inning to beat the Red Sox 4-1. Boston won the opening game of this series on Friday after the Yankees squandered a lead in the final frame.

The game on Saturday took close to six hours to complete and moved the Yankees to just 3 ½ games behind the first place Red Sox. However, great uncertainty will be in both dugouts as each team needed seven relievers and with two games on Sunday, some roster moves are expected.

Aaron Judge is hitless for the Yankees in this series, while Boston’s Mookie Betts was hitless in six at bats on Saturday.

New York will send Masahiro Tanaka to the mound Sunday night. The Yankees right-hander is 7-8 with an ERA of 5.47. Boston will counter with David Price. The Red Sox southpaw is 4-2 with an ERA of 3.91.

Tanaka shutout the Red Sox April 27 at Fenway but last month the Red Sox had five hits and five runs including three homers against him at Yankee Stadium.

Price has given up three or fewer earned runs in 8 of his 9 starts since May when he came off the disabled list to start his season. However, his poorest outing was June 8 against the Yankees where he allowed six runs.

New York is 2-5 in its last 7 games played.

Boston is 14-6 in its last 20 games played at home.

With this free pick, we like Boston to win.
