Mexico vs Jamaica Free Pick

The CONCACAF 2017 Gold Cup continues with group stage matches on Thursday when Mexico plays Jamaica at Sports Authority Field in Denver, Colorado. The current line on top sportsbooks has Mexico as the 4 to 11 favorites, Jamaica at 10 to 1 and a draw on 4 to 1.

At the same time Martin Barragan and Erick Torres are 7 to 2 favorites to score first for Mexico while Darren Mattocks is 12 to 1 to score first for Jamaica.

Tournament favorites Mexico started their play in the Gold Cup on the right foot by defeating El Salvador and will now play what could be their toughest match during the group stage. Mexico defeated El Salvador 3-1 in the opening match for both.

With a win Mexico would move to six points and book a spot in the knockout stage that follows.

Jamaica defeated Curacao in its opening match 2-0 with the help of Andre Blake their talented goalkeeper who kept Curacao off the board.

Mexico usually rotates its players and throws multiple formations at its opponents making it difficult to determine a set opening lineup from one match to another.

Orbelin Pineda will likely be a starter, after coming off the bench as a substitute to score in the opening match against El Salvador. However, until the lineup is announced there is uncertainty about who will start.

Mattocks was not a starter for Jamaica in its opening match, but his goal as a substitute will likely move him up to be amongst the starters on Thursday.

Elias Hernandez showed great creativity in attack for Mexico while Edison Alvarez showed strength on defense in the opening match.

If Erick Torres sees action and makes an impact at center forward for Mexico it could be a long match for Jamaica.

Although this group does not appear to be that challenging for Mexico, Jamaica will be its toughest opponent of the three. Jamaica’s goalkeeper Blake will make it difficult for Mexico to put goals on the board.

With this free pick, we like Mexico to win.
