U.S. vs Martinique Free Pick

July 12, 2017

The United States will play Martinique on Wednesday in their second match of Group B play in the 2017 Gold Cup at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.

The current line on top sportsbooks has the United States favored at 2 to 9, with Martinique at 14 to 1 and a draw sitting on 6 to 1.

The US started its Gold Cup with a 1-1 draw against Panama and hopes to record its first win of the tournament and take home three points in its match against Martinique.

The American side struggled to find its rhythm against Panama and a Dom Dwyer goal helped them to draw with Panama and put them in second place in their group.

Meanwhile, Martinique took first place in the group with a win over Nicaragua. The win gives the tiny Caribbean island an opportunity to reach the Cup’s knockout stage with, at the least, one of the two top third place spots.

US coach Bruce Arena’s squad is loaded with players that have little international experience. Teams under Arena tend to be solid and pragmatic and this one is loaded with strong defenders which should help keep Martinique off the scoreboard.

The US will have to push the ball forward more than in the first match against Panama. In that match, the US had 12 shots however just four were on goal.

Martinique’s defense is not as solid as that of Panama and the US should find it easier to set up plays and see more chances on goal.

Martinique is led by Kevin Parsemain its all-time leading scorer who scored one of the team’s two goals against Nicaragua. The second goal was scored by Steeven Langil.

Against Nicaragua, Martinique had 19 shots of which 11 were on goal. However, against a tougher defense versus the US, Martinique will likely sit back and make the US break them down and attempt to score on a counter attack.

Look for Dwyer to once again be a focal point on offense along with Kelyn Rowe a strong midfielder who will look to take control of that area for the US.

Dwyer is 7 to 2 to score first for the US.

Parsemain is 16 to 1 to score for Martinique.

With this free pick, we like the United States to win.
