Padres vs Indians Free Pick

Interleague action heads to Progressive Field Thursday when the San Diego Padres visit the Cleveland Indians. The current line on top sportsbooks has Cleveland favored at -185, with San Diego at +160 and the over/under run total on 9.5.

Entering this game, San Diego on the season is 36-49 overall and 14-26 on the road. The Padres are 6-4 in their last 10 games played. Cleveland on the season is 44-39 overall and 18-23 at home. The Indians are 5-5 in their last 10 games played.

The Indians have not played well without manager Terry Francona, who will remain in the hospital so doctors can determine what exactly his medical issues are. The team however, must continue to play and will try to win the final game of its three-game series against San Diego.

Francisco Lindor was one of the few bright spots for Cleveland in its 6-2 loss on Wednesday as he had three hits on the night. Jose Ramirez extended his consecutive-game hitting streak to 7 with a double for the Indians.

The Padres have won three straight games on the road. Cory Spangenberg knocked in the only run for San Diego in its win on Tuesday and followed that with a 2-run homer in Wednesday’s win. San Diego is 8-4 in its last 12 games.

San Diego will send Dinelson Lamet to the mound on Thursday. The Padres right-hander is 3-2 with an ERA of 5.35. Cleveland will counter with Josh Tomlin. The Indians right-hander is 4-9 with an ERA of 6.17.

Lamet won for the first time in close to one month last Thursday after he allowed just four hits while striking out eight in a 6-0 shutout over Atlanta. In his last three starts, Lamet is allowing hitters a .158 batting average while striking out 25 in 19 innings.

Tomlin is 1-3 with an ERA of 6.90 over his past six starts. His last outing was a no-decision on Saturday against Detroit. He gave up back to back home runs in that start and has given up eight home runs over his last four starts.

Cleveland designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion has no hits in 7 at bats over his last two games.

San Diego is 4-1 in its past 5 interleague games.

Cleveland is 2-14 in its past 16 interleague games.

With this free pick, we like San Diego to win.
