Mets vs Dodgers Free Pick

June 19, 2017

National League action on Monday heads west when the New York Mets visit the Los Angeles Dodgers. The current line on top sportsbooks has Los Angeles heavily favored at -300, New York at +250 and the over/under run total sitting on 7.

Entering this game, New York on the season is 31-37 overall and 14-14 on the road. The Mets are 6-4 in their last 10 games played. Los Angeles on the season is 44-26 overall and 25-10 at home. The Dodgers are 9-1 in their last 10 games played.

Los Angeles needs every win possible to maintain place in the competitive NL West. The Dodgers look to win their fourth consecutive game and 10th in the last 11 overall on Monday in the first game of a four-game set with the Mets.

In their just completed 6-game road trip across Ohio, the Dodgers finished 5-1 including their sweep of three straight games over the Cincinnati Reds. The Dodgers are now tied for second with Arizona one game behind first place Colorado in the division.

The Mets lost three of their four games to Washington this past weekend but won the final game against the Nationals on Sunday 5-1. The Mets start a road trip of 10 games on Monday against the Dodgers.

New York will send Zack Wheeler to the mound on Monday. The Mets right-hander is 3-4 with an ERA of 4.48. Los Angeles will counter with its ace Clayton Kershaw. The Dodgers left-hander is 9-2 with an ERA of 2.23.

In his last outing, Wheeler gave up eight runs including two home runs while walking three in just 1 2/3 innings versus the Chicago Cubs. Wheeler missed both 2015 and 2016 due to elbow surgery and will start for the first time in his career against the Dodgers.

Kershaw has looked strong over his past three starts and once again is in the hunt for another Cy Young award. The southpaw has given up 4 runs over his last 21 innings during his last three starts. Kershaw is perfect against the Mets at 7-0 with an ERA of 1.29 during his career.

New York is 1-6 in its last 7 games against opponents from the NL West.

Los Angeles is 21-7 in its last 28 games that follow a win.

With this free pick, we like Los Angeles to win.
