Red Sox vs Yankees Free Pick

June 08, 2017

One of the biggest rivalries in all of sports will play out on Thursday night when the Boston Red Sox visit Yankee Stadium to play American League East rivals the New York Yankees.

The current line on top sportsbooks has New York favored at -120, Boston on +100 and the over/under run total on 8. This will be the third and final game of this three-game series with the teams splitting the first two games.

Entering the game, Boston is 32-25 overall and 15-15 on the road. The Red Sox are 6-4 in their last 10 games played. New York is 32-23 overall and 17-9 at home. The Yankees are 5-5 in their last 10 games played.

The Yankees lead the AL East and can push that lead to 3 games over the Red Sox with a win on Thursday. New York was victorious on Wednesday in a battle between two former winners of the Cy Young Award.

CC Sabathia was given plenty of support by his Yankees teammates leading to an 8-0 win over the Red Sox and reigning Cy Young holder Rick Porcello.

Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius is on a tear. On Wednesday he hit a home run and has hit safety in 9 straight games. Gregorius has 10 hits in his 21 at bats during his career against Red Sox probable starter on Thursday David Price.

Boston was riding a short three-game winning streak entering Wednesday’s game, but has now been shutout this season five times.

Boston will send Price to the mound on Thursday. The Red Sox southpaw is 1-0 with an ERA of 3.00. New York will counter with Michael Pineda. The Yankees right-hander is 6-3 with an ERA of 3.76.

This will be just Price’s third start this season following elbow soreness to begin the season. He gave up just a pair of hits across five innings in his debut against the Chicago White Sox and then held Baltimore to a single run scattering three hits over seven innings.

Pineda has had a quality start in five of his past six starts. However, in his most recent start he allowed 10 hits over five innings against Toronto.

Boston right fielder Mookie Betts has just 4 hits in 28 at bats during his past seven games.

Boston is 11-4 in its past 15 games played.

New York is 3-7 in its past 10 games against an opponent with a record above .500.

With this free pick, we like Boston to win.
