Celtics vs Nuggets Free Pick

The All-Star game is beyond us and the NBA schedule heads down the backstretch towards the playoffs. Tonight two teams open up the second half of their regular season in Mile High City, when the Boston Celtics visit the Denver Nuggets. Both teams have played well this season, but Denver stumbled just prior to the All-Star break losing three straight games.

The Celtics enter the game with an overall record of 28-24 straight up and 21-27-4 against the spread. Denver has a record of 33-21 straight up and 32-22 against the spread.

Even though Boston has suffered numerous injuries to players this season, the Celtics are still in contention in the Eastern Conference race for the playoffs. Last week, prior to the All-Star break, Boston defeated this same Denver team at home, in triple overtime 118-114.

The Celtics have lost Rajon Rondo, Jared Sullinger and Leandro Barbosa to season ending injuries over the past month. Since Rondo went down with his ACL tear, the Celtics have won 8 out of 9 games. Included in those wins were victories against the Miami Heat and the Los Angeles Clippers. Boston also beat Chicago last Wednesday 71-69 before breaking for the All-Star game.

Denver comes into the game with a record of 22-3 at home, one of the best records in the league at home. The Nuggets have won the last three matchups head to head against Boston at home and seven of the past eight in Denver against the Celtics.

Denver is in fifth place in the Western Conference standings. The Nuggets rank third in the NBA in scoring with a per game average of 105.1 points. Before losing their last three games, the Nuggets had enjoyed a winning streak of 9 straight games.

The line has Denver favored at home by 8 ½ points, with the total sitting on 202 ½ for the over under. Smart money is taking Boston plus the points to cash out, while nearly 95% of smart money bettors are taking the over on the point total.
