Heat vs Thunder Free Pick

February 14, 2013

Tonight the Miami Heat visit the Oklahoma City Thunder for an East versus West matchup before both teams and the rest of the league take a four day hiatus for the All Star festivities.

The Heat leads the Eastern Conference with a record of 35-14 straight up and 25-24 against the spread. Oklahoma City trails only the San Antonio Spurs for the best record in the Western Conference and the NBA at 39-13 straight up and 31-20-1 against the spread.

Miami enters this game on fire having won six straight games and 8 of their past 10. However, the Thunder has one of the best records at home, as they have won 23 of their 26 home games this season. LeBron James however, will have something to say about tonight’s outcome. James is making his claim to the MVP award with his fine play. He set an NBA record this week by scoring a minimum of 30 points while shooting at least 60% from the field in each of his past six games.

Last season the Heat defeated the Thunder in five games to win the NBA Championship and this will be the first time the two teams have played in Oklahoma City since Miami defeated the Thunder in game two of the Finals and then won three straight in Miami to win the title.

On Christmas Day this season, the Heat defeated Oklahoma City in the only matchup head to head between the two teams this season.

Oklahoma City had won four consecutive games by 20 points or more until Tuesday night when the Utah Jazz defeated the Thunder in Utah. Durant has led the league in scoring for three straight seasons and this season has career best averages in six statistical categories.

Tonight’s line has the Thunder as a favorite at home by 4 ½ points with the total for the over under set at 205. Smart money is taking Miami plus the points and the total to cash out on the over.
