North Carolina vs Miami Free Pick

February 09, 2013

The race for the Atlantic Coast Conference crown is heating up and two conference rivals meet today in a crucial matchup when the North Carolina Tar Heels visit the Miami Hurricanes. The Tar Heels enter the game with a record of 16-6 SU and 12-8 ATS. Miami is 18-3 SU and 14-4 ATS.

Miami has put together a great season thus far on its way to the top spot in the ACC and fans, teams and other coaches are finally giving the Hurricanes the credit they deserve. Not only are the Hurricanes No. 1 in the ACC, but they are up to No. 8 in the national rankings.

Miami has 10 wins and 2 losses at home this season, but more importantly is undefeated in conference play with 9 straight wins. They are two games in front of second place Duke in the conference and three in front of today’s opponent North Carolina. Miami has won 10 straight overall including Tuesday’s rout of Boston College 72-50.

North Carolina has not had the season the team or its fans are used to. However, the Heels have won three consecutive games since losing to North Carolina State. On Tuesday, the team put together a great effort in routing Wake Forest 87-62. The team shot 52% from the floor and added 26 points from turnovers committed by Wake Forest.

The Heels know that in their prior losses they took bad shots and turned the ball over too often allowing the oppositions offense to have that many more opportunities to score. The Heels defense has turned their season around as they are allowing fewer points over the last three games and giving their offense more of an opportunity to look for the good shots.

Since joining the conference, Miami has lost five straight games at home against North Carolina.

The line currently has Miami as a 7 ½-point favorite with the point total resting on 137 ½. Smart money is taking the Hurricanes at home to win straight up and cover the points with the total cashing out to those taking the over.
