Notre Dame vs Syracuse Free Pick

February 04, 2013

Tonight’s matchup between the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame and the Syracuse Orange is the Big East at its best. Two of the top schools in the conference and the nation hit the basketball court tonight in an important conference matchup for both.

Notre Dame comes into the game with an overall record of 18-4 SU and 10-9 ATS. Syracuse has a record of 18-3 SU and 9-7-1 ATS.

Syracuse has been on the short end of things of late, as they have lost two straight on the road and if they lose tonight, it would be the first time in two years they would lose three straight games. However, the Orange will be playing at home, where they own a Division I best streak of 35 straight wins.

Syracuse was without James Southerland due to eligibility issues as well as DaJuan Coleman in their game against Pittsburgh on Saturday that resulted in a 65-55 loss. In the game, Syracuse only had seven players with scholarships playing on their roster.

However, even though they are shorthanded, the Orange has not lost in the Carrier Dome since February 9 of 2011 when they were defeated by the Georgetown Hoyas 64-56.

Last season, Syracuse was ranked No. 1 in the country with a record of 20 wins and no losses when they played on the road against Notre Dame and lost 67-58. However, at home the Orange has won 8 of the past 10 games played head to head against Notre Dame. In the last two games played at home against Notre Dame, the Orange has won by the combined total of 31 points.

Jack Cooley scored 26 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, both season highs, in Notre Dame’s 79-71 victory over DePaul in overtime on Saturday. The win was the third straight for Notre Dame and on the road in conference play Notre Dame has 3 wins and 1 loss.

The current line has Syracuse favored at home by 8 ½ points with the total sitting on 133 ½. Smart money takes Notre Dame plus the points and the over to cash out.
