Seahawks vs Redskins Free Pick

Today’s matchup between the visiting Seattle Seahawks and the host Washington Redskins pits two teams each with a rookie quarterback at the helm. The Seahawks nailed down the first of two wildcard spots in the NFC with a record of 11-5 straight up and against the spread. Washington won last weekend against the Dallas Cowboys to win the NFC East division to make the playoffs. The Redskins record is 10-6 straight up and 11-5 against the spread.

Seattle has Russell Wilson at quarterback, while Washington has last year’s Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III over center calling the plays. Both teams enter the game as two of the hottest in the NFL. The Redskins won seven consecutive games to win the division title, while the Seahawks won five consecutive to end the season.

Last Sunday, Washington defeated Dallas 28-18 to clinch their spot in the postseason, while the Seahawks clinched their playoff berth with a week 16 win over NFC West rival San Francisco 42-13.

Both rookie quarterbacks have helped their team not only throwing the ball but rushing the ball as well. Washington ended the season no. 1 in rushing in the league, while Seattle was no. 3. Alfred Morris led the Redskins in rushing this season, while Marshawn Lynch was the leading rusher for Seattle. Nevertheless, both rookie quarterbacks had excellent seasons running the ball.

However, if the saying is true that defense wins games, then the Seahawks will have the advantage. Seattle was the no. 1 defense in allowing points this season in the NFL. The Seahawks defense only gave up an average of 15.3 points a game. Seattle has the ability to slow down Griffin running the ball and has two of the best cornerbacks in all of football.

The defense for Washington has come through of late in their must win situations. Over their seven game consecutive win streak, the defense allowed only 20 points per game. The Redskins run defense was no. 5 in the NFL this season

The current line has Seattle favored on the road by 3 points with the total points set at 46. I like Seattle since their defense is tougher than Washington’s is. Take the Seahawks and lay the points. The total will make winners of the over bettors.
