Colts vs Ravens Free Pick

January 06, 2013

The Wildcard game for the AFC on Sunday matches the Baltimore Ravens against the visiting Indianapolis Colts. Baltimore was the champion of the AFC North this season, while Indianapolis punched their playoff ticket by earning the first of two wildcard berths in the AFC.

The Ravens enter this game with a regular season record of 10-6 SU and a disappointing 6-9-1 ATS. Indianapolis had a very successful season with a regular season record of 11-6 SU, while posting the same record ATS.

This season, Andrew Luck the rookie quarterback from Stanford led the Colts to their fine season. However, this will be his first career postseason game and it is against one of the most experienced teams in postseason of late, the Ravens. Luck however, showed great poise all season in turning a 1-15 team of a year again into a playoff qualifier.

Baltimore’s season did not end on an upbeat, as they were losers of four of their last five contests, fired their offensive coordinator and received word that veteran middle linebacker Ray Lewis would be retiring at season’s end. The only game the Ravens managed to win down the stretch was a victory over the New York Giants to clinch the AFC North title.

Look for Baltimore to try to exploit the weak defense of Indianapolis against the run. Baltimore has one of the most talented running backs in the NFL in Ray Rice. Look for the Ravens to slow the tempo down in the game and run time off the clock. The Indianapolis rush defense was ranked just 29th in the league this season.

Indianapolis on the other hand, will have Luck making as many passes as he can. The Colts will look to go over the top as much as possible to put as many points on the board as they can. Luck ended the regular season with over 4,350 yards through the air and 23 touchdowns, but he threw 18 interceptions as well.

Odds makers have made Baltimore the favorite with a 7-point spread and the over under today has been set at 47. I like the Colts plus the points and I like the OVER.
