Vikings vs Packers Free Pick

The Minnesota Vikings take on the Green Bay Packers today in the first round of the NFL playoffs after playing one another last week to end the regular season.

Minnesota defeated Green Bay last weekend to end the regular season and secure a wildcard spot to face the Packers. Green Bay ended the regular season at 11-5 straight up and 9-7 against the spread. Minnesota was just a game behind 10-6 straight up and 9-6-1 against the spread.

The weather should not affect the game too much as snow showers are expected with a game time temperature of 25 degrees. The Vikings needed a victory last week when they hosted the Packers and got it when Blair Walsh hit a 29-yard field goal in the game’s last seconds to win 37-34. The loss dropped Green Bay to the third seed to face the sixth seeded Vikings and miss a bye the first round of the postseason.

The Vikings have the best running back in the NFL in Adrian Peterson who only was 9 yards short of breaking the all time single season rushing mark of 2,106 held by Eric Dickerson. Minnesota has the second best rushing attack in the NFL averaging 164 yards a game. The Vikings passing game however, is ranked no. 31 in the league.

Green Bay has Aaron Rodgers calling the plays at quarterback. In last weeks’ game, he threw for 365 yards with four touchdown passes and no interceptions. For the season, he had 4,295 yards with 39 touchdown passes and just eight interceptions. The Packers ranked no. 13 overall on offense and no. 20 rushing the ball. Defensively the Packers were ranked no. 11 in the NFL, but can look superb one week and not even mediocre the next.

Odds makers have listed the Packers as the favorite by 7 ½ points with the point spread sitting at just 46%. Early betting shows bettors split 50-50 with both teams. I like the Packers less the points in this matchup with the total cashing out to those smart money bettors who like the OVER.
