Bengals vs Steelers Free Pick

December 23, 2012

The Pittsburgh Steelers host the Cincinnati Bengals in an AFC North showdown with huge playoff implication riding on the game. Pittsburgh enters this game with a record of 7-7 SU and 5-8-1 ATS, while Cincinnati is 8-6 SU and 7-6-1 ATS.

Both the Steelers and Bengals need to win to keep their playoff hopes alive. Pittsburgh has lost its last two games, while Cincinnati had won five of their past six games. The Bengals have quietly moved into second place in the division and have an outside shot at winning the division and an even better shot at making the playoffs.

Pittsburgh lost a big game to Dallas last Sunday after they had built a 9-point fourth quarter lead. Cincinnati however, had an easily time with their opponent last week when they defeated Philadelphia 34-13. Pittsburgh is 5-0 SU as well as ATS over their past five games head to head against Cincinnati.

The Bengals last two games are against Pittsburgh and Baltimore and Cincinnati has a dismal 0-9 SU record against the two teams. With a win in both of their last two regular season games, the Steelers will qualify for the postseason.

Earlier this season the Steelers defeated the Bengals, had 167 yards rushing and will look to pound the ball against Cincinnati today to take time off the clock and keep the Bengal offense off the field. Cincinnati had 156 yards on the ground against Philadelphia a week ago, but the Pittsburgh defense is much tougher against the run.

However, the Steelers secondary has been decimated by injury and could be exploited in this game.

Odds makers have picked Pittsburgh at home, as the favorite by 3½ points and the point total for the over under has been place at 41½. I like Pittsburgh less the spread to cover and I like the total to make winners of those taking the OVER.
