49ers vs Seahawks Free Pick

December 23, 2012

Just two days until Christmas and NFL teams are looking for gifts from Santa as they jockey for position in the race for the postseason. Two weeks remain in the regular season and tonight two teams that are at the top of the NFC West faceoff when the San Francisco 49ers visit the Seattle Seahawks.

San Francisco enters the game in first place in the division with a record of 10-3-1 straight up and 9-5 against the spread. The resurgent Seahawks are 9-5 straight up, 10-4 against the spread and are in second place in the division.

Over the past two weeks, Seattle has crushed its opponents. Two weekends ago, the Seahawks humiliated the Arizona Cardinals by a score of 58-0 and the last weekend the Seahawks turned around and routed the Buffalo Bills 50-17.

However, do not think the 49ers are just going to roll over and let Seattle win. Last week San Francisco defeated the New England Patriots on the road 41-34. At one time during the game the 49ers were ahead by 28 points, 31-3, but the Patriots behind Tom Brady were able to tie the score in the fourth quarter, but the 49ers calmly scored again to win the game.

The top two defenses in the NFL for points allowed will face one another tonight and many people see a tough low scoring defensive battle. However, on offense both teams have their weapons to throw at the defense. Russell Wilson, the rookie quarterback for Seattle has played with a maturity beyond his years this season. The Seahawks also have the third best rushing game in the NFL averaging over 161 yards per game.

San Francisco has handed the quarterback job to Colin Kaepernick and the youngster has added a new dimension to the offense for San Francisco with his rushing and scrambling skills. That has helped make the 49ers the second best team in rushing in the NFL averaging over 163 yard per game on the ground.

The line has Seattle has the favorite by a single point with the total at 39 ½. I like the Seahawks and their quirky home field advantage to win this game and for the total to cash out to those taking the over.
