Grizzlies vs Nuggets Free Pick

December 14, 2012

The Memphis Grizzlies have started their NBA season strong and head to the northwest tonight to face the Denver Nuggets in Mile High City. Memphis is currently sporting a record of 14-5 straight up and 12-7 against the spread. The Nuggets record is not quite as good as the Grizzlies nevertheless they at strong at home. Thus far, the Nuggets have 11-12 straight up and 13-10 against the spread.

Memphis enters this game on a two game losing streak thanks in part to turnovers. Although, the Grizzlies record is one of the better ones in the league, they have cooled a bit of late losing three of their past five games played, as they are averaging nearly 18 turnovers a game, after committing just 14 per game when they started the season with 12 wins and 2 losses.

On Saturday, Memphis turned the ball over 16 times to lose to Atlanta 93-82 and then lost their next game 82-80 against Phoenix.

The same thing is happening to Denver as they turned the ball over 19 times against Minnesota on Wednesday and lost 108-105, which ended a five game road trip where they had 2 wins and 3 losses. George Karl, the Nuggets’ Head Coach said the team did not play intelligent basketball in their loss.

The loss was Denver’s sixth in its past nine games, with only one being played at home. At home in the Pepsi Center, Denver has played a league low six games but has won five of the six. Kenneth Faried is scoring at a rate of just 11 points on the road, but at home is averaging over 15 points. However, he played well in their loss on the road Wednesday by scoring 26 points and pulling down 14 rebounds.

In the last game the teams played in Denver, Memphis won 94 to 91 last March. However, it was just the fourth time the Grizzlies have won in 32 roads games against Denver.

The line has Memphis as a road favorite by 1 point with the total set at 195 ½. I like the Grizzlies to win this game, with the total making winners of those betting the over.
