Dallas vs Boston Free Pick

December 12, 2012

Folks, the NBA arrives in Beantown tonight when the Boston Celtics host the Dallas Mavericks. The Celtics have one of the NBA’s most storied histories and have won more NBA championships than any other franchise. The Mavericks have not been around as a franchise anywhere near as long as Boston and have won just one NBA championship.

Currently, the Boston Celtics are 11-9 straight up and 9-11 against the spread. The Celtics are in fourth place in the Atlantic division four games behind frontrunner the New York Knicks. Dallas is 11-10 straight up and 8-9-3 against the spread.

Currently Dallas is still playing without their top scorer and rebounder Dirk Nowitzki, who had knee surgery prior to the start of the season. In addition, day to day for Dallas is Shawn Marion with a groin injury and Dominique Jones with a virus. The only Boston player injured is Avery Bradley who is out indefinitely with a shoulder injury.

The Celtic and Mavericks have split their last 10 games head to head with each team winning five and losing five straight up. The Celtics have 6 wins and 4 losses against the spread in those same 10 games. The two teams played back in January and February last season with Dallas winning both games straight up and against the spread.

The Mavericks have 4 wins and 1 loss straight up over their past five games, with only a loss on the road at the hands of the Los Angeles Clippers. Boston in their past five games has 3 wins and 2 losses straight up. The Celtics just completed a home and home series with division rival Philadelphia with each team winning on their home court.

The latest line has Boston as the favorite at home by 5.5. The total for the over under is sitting at this point on 196 . I like the veteran Celtics at home, as Dallas has lost 7 games already this season on the road. Take Boston less the points and take the UNDER to cash out.
