Lions vs Packers Free Pick

December 09, 2012

The NFL season is nearing its end and teams are battling for a spot in the playoffs. Tonight two NFC North rivals hook up when the Green Bay Packers play host to the Detroit Lions. The Packers are trying to stay in a tie for first place with the Chicago Bears in the division, while the Lions have had a disappointing year following last year’s playoff appearance following a 10-6 regular season.

Green Bay enters the game with a record of 8-4 SU while they are 6-6 ATS and Detroit is 4-8 SU and just 5-7 ATS. The Packers have not been able to dominate as they did during the regular season in 2011 but have returned from early season losses to make another run for the playoffs and a possible Super Bowl appearance.

Detroit has been a disappointment to its fans with their inconsistent play the entire season. Detroit started the season 4-4 but since then has lost four straight games and is no longer in contention for the playoffs. Detroit has kept games close due to its strong offense that can generate yards and points quite effortlessly, with quarterback Matthew Stafford at the helm. Nonetheless, against playoff bound teams they cannot seem to win as evidenced by losses to Houston, Indianapolis and this same Green Bay team.

Green Bay has been able to win close games and is 6-1 SU over their past seven games, with only a 38-10 loss to the New York Giants keeping them from being undefeated in their past seven outings.

Green Bay’s secondary is banged up and Clay Matthews their best pass rusher is out. The first meeting this season between the two teams was won 24-20 by Green Bay. The odds makers have placed Green Bay as the favorite by 6 ½ with the total at 48 ½. I like the Pack and the OVER in this one.
