Navy vs Army Free Pick

December 08, 2012

There is nothing better than an annual rivalry that has taken place for decades and decades. Today one of college football’s oldest and most respected rivalries takes place in Philadelphia when the Navy Midshipmen take on the Army Black Knights.

The two teams have had very contrasting seasons as Navy enters the game at 7-4 straight up and 4-7 against the spread. Army has not fared as well and is just 2-9 straight up and 3-8 against the spread. However, in this rivalry, records can be thrown out the door, as the two teams will fight with all the pride they have.

The winner will take home the Commander-in-Chief’s trophy with a win. Navy turned its season around following a lackluster start as they won six of their past games including their last game 21-10 over Texas State on November 17. The Midshipmen started their winning ways with a victory over Air Force in the beginning of October 28-21 in overtime.

Army’s season has not been anywhere near as positive as Navy’s. The Black Knights have lost two straight and five of their past six games. The last victory Army had was huge, as the Black Knights defeated Air Force as well, 41-21.

Both teams have exceptional rushing games on offense. Army is no. 1 in the nation in rushing averaging 370 yards per game, while the Midshipmen are ranked no. 6 in the nation averaging 286 yards per game on the ground. If over ten passes are thrown between the two teams today, it will be a miracle. This season Navy has only attempted 80 passes and Army just 85.

As is common with option attacks on the ground, both teams have exceptional running quarterbacks. Trent Steelman leads Army, while Navy has Keenan Reynolds a freshmen at quarterback. Navy, if they must throw, has a better passing game than Army does. Reynolds has thrown 8 touchdown passes on the season and just one interception.

Navy won the matchup last season 27- 21. This year the current line has Navy as the favorite by 7 ½. Navy has covered in ten straight. However, I like Navy straight up, but Army against the spread.
