Lakers vs Thunder Free Pick

The new generation takes on the old, as the Oklahoma City Thunder with the high scoring duo of Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook hosts the Los Angeles Lakers and Kobe Bryant in what should prove to be a high scoring run and gun affair. Oklahoma City is off to a fast start this season with a record of 15-4 straight up and 13-5-1 against the spread.

The Lakers have not enjoyed the same success as they only are 9-10 straight up and 8-11 against the spread. The Lakers on the road in the early part of the season are just 2-5 SU.

Tonight the two top scorers in the NBA Bryant and Durant will look to lead their respective teams. This week Bryant became just the fifth NBA player to score more than 30,000 points in his career and Durant is one player who might joint in one day in that club.

The Thunder has won six straight games and has not played the Lakers since the playoffs last season. Durant, who grew up watching Bryant play is ten years younger than the Lakers’ star and earlier this season became the second youngest to reach the 10,000 point plateau.

In the playoffs last season, Durant’s average against the Lakers in five games was 26.8 points per game, while Bryant averaged 31.2 points. The Thunder eliminated the Lakers in the semifinal series 4 games to 1.

Because of that elimination, the Lakers made offseason changes. Los Angeles acquired Dwight Howard from Orlando and Steve Nash was picked up just prior to the season’s start. Nash has been injured and only has played in two of the Lakers games, while Howard, returning from season ending back surgery last year, has not been as effective early in the season as many had expected.

Pau Gasol, the Lakers big man, has missed two straight games with tendinitis in both of his knees and could miss tonight’s game. Antawn Jamison has scored 15 points in both games Gasol has missed, as Gasol’s replacement.

The line has Oklahoma City as the favorite at home by 8, with the over under total resting on 210 ½. Smart money takes the Thunder straight up and the Lakers against the spread, with the total cashing out for those bettors taking the over.
