Mavericks vs Clippers Free Pick

Many of the best teams in basketball play in the Western Conference and tonight two of those teams meet when the Dallas Mavericks head to Hollywood to face the Los Angeles Clippers. The bright lights will be shining at the Staples Center as the Mavericks with a record of 8-9 straight up and 7-10 against the spread take on the Clippers with a record of 11-6 straight up and 9-8 against the spread.

Tonight the Clippers will be looking to extend their winning streak to four consecutive games, while the Mavericks will be looking to end their losing streak on the road at two. The Mavericks have two big men, Chris Kaman and Elton Brand, who played for the Clippers prior to joining the Mavericks. Brand has faced his former team six times since the end of the 2007-2008 season when he left, but this will be the first game back in Los Angeles for Kaman, where he played his first 8 seasons.

The Mavericks are still playing without All Star forward Dirk Nowitzki who is rehabilitating a bad knee. Leading the team in scoring in his absence is O.J. Mayo with an average of 20.2 points. Last season Mayo was with the Memphis Grizzlies who lost to the Clippers in seven games in the playoffs.

Los Angeles was behind by 14 points during the game, but rallied to defeat Utah 105-104 on Monday. Forward Blake Griffin led the team in scoring with 30 points, while Jamal Crawford scored 20 off the bench. In the game, the Clippers converted 17 Utah turnovers into 25 points and lead the conference in forcing turnovers at 18.5 per game.

Both teams are foul prone, with Dallas allowing 28 free throws per game and Los Angeles 26. Chris Paul has played well for Los Angeles against Dallas. The All Star point guard is averaging nearly 22 points per game in his regular season career against the Mavericks.

Dallas ended a three game losing streak on Saturday with a 92-77 won over the Detroit Pistons.

The line has Los Angeles as the favorite by 8 ½ points with the total sitting on 198. I like the Clippers at home, in this with the total cashing out to those with the over.
