Giants vs Redskins Free Pick

Rivalries in sports are a dime a dozen, but true rivalries that are decades old are hard to find. Tonight one of those rivalries takes place in the nation’s capital when the Washington Redskins host the New York Giants on Monday Night Football.

Washington enters tonight’s game with a record of 5-6 straight up and 6-5 against the spread, while New York enters the game in first place in the NFC East with a record of 7-4 straight up and 5-5-1 against the spread.

Washington is playing great football thanks to Robert Griffin III, their incredible rookie quarterback. However, if the team wants even the slightest hope of a playoff berth they must win tonight in their matchup against the Giants.

Griffin has had a tremendous start to his professional career this season and over the past two weeks has thrown 8 touchdown passes, four each, in victories over NFC rivals the Eagles and Cowboys. Not only can Griffin throw bombs but he is the team’s most dangerous rusher as well.

However, the Giants stand in his way tonight. Last week they quieted a number of doubters by dismantling the defense of Green Bay on the way to a 38-10 rout of the Packers. The win for New York ended a short two game winless streak and gave them a solid two game lead in the division.

In the game, the defense for the Giants was able to sack Packers star quarterback Aaron Rodgers on five occasions. On the offense, Eli Manning, the Giants’ star quarterback had three touchdown passes to become the all time leader for the franchise.

The Giants won the first matchup between the two rivals earlier in the season in the last minute of play on a 77-yard pass from Manning to his favorite target Victor Cruz. Washington leads the NFL in rushing offense and the Giants will fill the box with defensive players to stop the run as well as get pressure on Griffin.

The odds makers have currently place the Giants as a 3-point favorite on the road, with the point total for the over under resting at 50 ½. Griffin will light up the scoreboard in front of a national television audience tonight. Take Washington plus the points and take the over as well.
