Alabama vs Georgia Free Pick

December 01, 2012

Wow! What a way to end the SEC Conference schedule!

The SEC championship will be played tonight at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia with the no. 2 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide taking on the no. 3 ranked Georgia Bulldogs. This game is not just to see who claims the title as the best of the SEC. The winner will go on to play Notre Dame in the BCS Championship Bowl to determine what team is the national champion.

Alabama and Georgia both enter today’s game with a record of 11-1 straight up and 6-6 against the spread. Alabama is attempting to become the first team since the start of the BCS era to win national championships in back to back years.

Georgia played in the SEC championship last season versus LSU but was routed in the game 42-10. This season the Bulldogs did not have a tough schedule and have played well down the stretch with 4 wins and 1 loss against the spread over their last five games. In those five games, they outscored their opponents 179-43.

Alabama is ranked no.2 in the country against the rush by allowing only 77 yards per game and overall is no. 1 in the country defensively allowing a total of just 233 yards of total offense per game. Alabama has shutout their last two opponents of the season. The Crimson Tide defense will put a great deal of pressure on the passing game of Georgia, as they will stop the run in this matchup.

On the offensive side of the ball, Georgia has a more potent and explosive offense, while Alabama uses a mixture of the run and pass that yields enough points to win thanks to their tough defense. Georgia has yet to face a defensive line as strong as Alabama’s and their defense has not faced an offensive opponent as disciplined as the Alabama offensive unit.

The current line has Alabama as the favorite by 7 ½ with the point total for the over under sitting at 51. I like Alabama in this matchup and I like them to win big. Take the Crimson Tide less the points and take the point total to cash out on the under.
