Packers vs Giants Free Pick

Sunday Night Football has a great matchup between two of the best teams in the NFC as the New York Giants host the Green Bay Packers at MetLife Stadium. The Giants are leading the NFC East with a record of 6-4 straight up and 4-5-1 against the spread. Their opponent the Packers are tied for first place in the NFC North with a record of 7-3 straight up and 5-5 against the spread.

Green Bay has won their last five consecutive games including last weekend’s last minute victory over division rival the Detroit Lions 24-20. However, each week it looks as if the Packers must work harder and harder to win. Key players on Green Bay such as Clay Mathews, Greg Jennings and Charles Woodson are out injured, which is one reason the team has labored harder for their victories.

The Giants were out on their bye weekend last week, but in their last outing were humiliated 31 to 13 by the Cincinnati Bengals. That loss was the second straight loss, but the bye week has allowed injured players to recover and get ready for the stretch run of six more games.

The Giants will look to take advantage of the many injuries the Packers have on defense at the linebacker position and in the secondary. The Packers will start a second year player and rookie at the two corners tonight with a rookie at safety. On top of that, Mathews, the team’s best pass rusher will be out with a bad hamstring.

On offense, the Packers have also had injuries to their offensive line and might keep their tight end and fullback in the backfield to protest quarterback Aaron Rodgers on passing plays taking away options for Rodgers to throw to.

Last season the Packers defeated the Giants on the road 38-35, but lost at home to New York in the playoffs 37-20. On the road against the Giants, Green Bay has 4 wins and 1 loss straight up in their past five games.

This game is a tough call. Currently New York is favored by 3 with the total set at 51. Smart money takes New York less the points and the over to cash out.
