49ers vs Saints Free Pick

November 25, 2012

As the season enters week no. 12, the San Francisco 49ers, the leaders in the NFC West travel to Louisiana to take on the New Orleans Saints. Currently the 49ers have a record of 7-2-1 SU while they are 6-4 ATS. New Orleans comes into the game with a record of 5-5 SU, while they are one better ATS at 6-4. New Orleans, after losing their first four games of the season, have come back to win five of six.

Both teams are elite teams in the NFC. Last Monday the 49ers put on an impressive display of football by defeating the NFC North leading Chicago Bears by the score of 32-7.

The 49ers used Colin Kaepernick, their second string quarterback on the night and he threw for 243 yards and two touchdowns. With his solid play as quarterback, the team has a genuine quarterback controversy with players, fans and others calling for the benching of Alex Smith the starter in favor of Kaepernick. Regardless of who plays for the 49ers at quarterback, running the ball first behind a strong offensive line will be their game plan.

New Orleans defeated the Oakland Raiders last week 38-17, putting them another step closer to getting back into the race for a playoff spot. Quarterback Drew Brees is once again putting up huge numbers passing the ball, while the Saints defense seems to be getting better each week.

Defensively San Francisco will make Brees work for his yardage, as they know New Orleans is a one dimensional teams and will rush Brees hard on every down.

Last season the two teams played and the 49ers won on a last second touchdown 36-32. In that game, the two teams combined for more than 900 yards of offense.

After delaying for most of the week, odds makers made San Francisco a 1 point favorite and place the total at 49 ½.  I like New Orleans in this game with the point total cashing out to those taking the OVER.
