South Carolina vs Clemson Free Pick

November 24, 2012

The South Carolina Gamecocks visit in-state rival the Clemson Tigers in one of the most heated rivalries in college football. Clemson comes into the game with a record of 10-1 SU while they are 8-3 ATS. South Carolina is 9-2 SU and just 7-4 ATS. The Gamecocks are ranked no. 12 in the nation, while the Tigers are ranked no. 10.

This particular rivalry dates back to 1909 and is one of the south’s most prestigious and heated rivalries. It is also the second longest rivalry that is uninterrupted in the country. On a number of occasions the games have had heated confrontations including the famous “brawl” that took place in 2004.

Players and coaches have made comments during the season and especially this week about the opposing team. South Carolina is 3-0 SU over the past three seasons against Clemson in their head-to-head meeting. A win tonight for South Carolina would give them four straight head-to-head wins for the first time in 50 years against Clemson.

South Carolina’s strong defense will have to slow down the potent offense of the Tigers. Clemson has averaged this season more than 535 yards of offense per game. That ranks them sixth overall in the country and last week they defeated the N.C. State Wolfpack 62-48. Tahj Boyd, the Clemson starting quarterback has thrown for over 3,365 yards and 33 touchdowns.

The defense of Clemson is not as strong as South Carolina’s and they give up a number of yards and points during a game.

South Carolina must keep the high scoring offense of Clemson off the field by playing a running game that takes time off the clock and rests their defense.

The line has Clemson favored by 3 ½ at home, with the total points at 62. I like Clemson less the points.
