Texans vs Lions Free Pick

November 22, 2012

Turkey Day is here and that means football. Today the Detroit Lions take on the Houston Texans. Detroit has a record this season of 4-6 SU as well as ATS, while Houston shares the best record in the NFL with Atlanta at 9-1 SU but just 7-3 ATS.

In the preseason, the Texans were chosen as a possible Super Bowl representative for the AFC and to date they have not changed the minds of many. Houston will be in the playoffs for sure and should be playing for the AFC Championship in January. Detroit however, enjoyed a breakout season last year by making the playoffs, but is not playing up to par this season.

The offense for Houston is the sixth ranked in the NFL overall. The Texans are eighth in running the ball and 12th through the air. Running back Arian Foster has 950 yards rushing this season with ten touchdowns. Matt Schaub the Texans’ quarterback threw for 527 yards last weekend with 43 completions in their overtime defeat of the Jacksonville Jaguars. His passing yards were second all time in NFL history for one game behind Norm Van Brocklin.

Houston has a tough defense as they are ranked fourth overall in the NFL. They allow 18 points a game defensively. Detroit however, is very capable on offense of moving the ball. The Lions, behind quarterback Matthew Stafford are second overall on offense in the NFL. The Lions rushing attack is just 23rd in the league, but their passing attack is no. 1. Defensively the Lions are ranked tenth in the league.

The Texans have been given the status as favorite on the road by 3 ½ points, while the point total is 48. Take the Lions plus the points in this matchup.
