Spurs vs Celtics Free Pick

November 21, 2012

One of the best teams in the Western Conference heads east to take on the league’s most storied franchise when the San Antonio Spurs travel to Boston to face the Boston Celtics. San Antonio has started the season strong with a record of 8-3 straight up and 6-4-1 against the spread. Boston has started to play better after starting slow and has improved to 6-5 straight up and 3-6-1 against the spread.

On Monday night, San Antonio lost to the Los Angeles Clippers 92-87 and completed a disappointing three game home stand at 1-2. Not only did the Spurs lose the game in the last seconds of play, but they also lost forward Stephen Jackson to injury. He fractured his pinkie on his right hand and will miss between four and six weeks of play.

Due to the injury, the team will activated Cory Joseph a second year player to fill in for Jackson. Last season, Joseph played in 29 games for the Spurs and averaged 2 points per game. Veteran Tim Duncan has started the season well and is averaging a double/double with 18 points and 10 rebounds per game.

Boston lost to the Detroit Pistons on the road Sunday 103-83. It was Boston’s fourth game in the past five nights and their seventh game in the past 10 days. The tired Celtics only hit 4 of their 17 shots from beyond the 3-point stripe and were 4 of 12 shooting during the second quarter of play.

Rajon Rondo continues to have a great start to the season. He extended his consecutive game streak of at least 10 assists to 34, which is the third longest streak in NBA history trailing only John Stockton’s 37 games and Magic Johnson’s 46 consecutive games. Boston has 7 wins and 3 losses in the past 10 games head to head versus San Antonio, although last season the teams only played once and the Spurs won that game by 1 point.

The line currently has San Antonio favored by 1 ½ points with the total resting on 195 ½. I like the Spurs less 1 ½ and the total to cash out on the UNDER.
