Nets vs Lakers Free Pick

November 20, 2012

The NBA season is just three weeks old and one coach has already lost his job. The Los Angeles Lakers knew after just five games and a 1-4 start that they needed a change and fired Mike Brown. They went to the coaching well and found their man in the form of Mike D’Antoni and he will be on the bench tonight for the first time when the Lakers host the Brooklyn Nets.

The Lakers have been able to recover from their disastrous start and are now back to playing 500 ball with a record of 5-5 straight up and against the spread. The Nets have started strong in their new home in New York and are 6-2 straight up and 4-3-1 against the spread.

Since D’Antoni took the reins, the Lakers have been averaging over 116 points per game, even while their offseason acquisition at guard, Steve Nash, recovers from a small fracture of his leg. Nash, who ran the offense for D’Antoni when the two were in Phoenix, should return this weekend. On Sunday, the Lakers defeated Houston 119-108 and shot 54% from the floor. In that game, offseason acquisition Dwight Howard scored 28 points to lead the team.

Brooklyn tried to acquire Howard before the Lakers but a deal could not be worked out. However, the Nets did pick up Joe Johnson from the Hawks and re-signed Deron Williams and Brook Lopez. The Nets have jumped out of the gate in the early going with their best record to open a season in 10 years.

The Lakers are 8-0 straight up in the last 8 head-to-head matchups with the Nets. However, the Nets are currently on a five game winning streak and could extend that to six tonight, which would be the longest winning streak for the franchise since April of 2006. The Nets started a west coast swing on Sunday with a win at Sacramento 99-90.

The line at this time has Los Angeles favored at home by 6 ½ and the over under total at 208 ½.

Take Los Angeles less the points and take the over to cash out.
