Ohio State vs Wisconsin Free Pick

November 17, 2012

A huge Big Ten matchup takes place today in Madison, Wisconsin featuring the home Wisconsin Badgers and the visiting Ohio State Buckeyes.

Wisconsin is playing for a bowl game, while the Buckeyes can only play for pride. Ohio State cannot qualify for postseason bowl games due to infractions and because they have been banned this season by the NCAA. The Badgers come into the game with an overall record of 7-3 straight up and 5-1 at home. The Buckeyes are undefeated at 10-0 straight up and 3-0 on the road.

The Buckeyes will win the Leader division of the Big Ten with a win in the game today. However, the Buckeyes cannot play in the postseason Big Ten Championship. Last week the Badgers humiliated Indiana 62-14, while the Buckeyes were idle. Wisconsin set a new team record in their win against the Hoosiers by rushing for 564 yards. The Badger offense ran for seven touchdowns on the day. Thanks to a big rushing day, Wisconsin did not have to rely on their third string quarterback, as he threw only seven passes during the game.

The Ohio State defense however, is much different than Indiana is and ranks 16 in the nation against the run. The Badgers defense is tough as well, as they are ranked 15 in the nation in total defense.

Ohio State has a record of 4-1 against the spread in the past five games versus Wisconsin. However, over their past four games played in Madison, the Buckeyes only are 1-3 against the spread. Last season, Wisconsin was behind late in the game 26-14 before they scored two quick TDS to take the lead, before Ohio State came back with only 40 second left to win the game.

Wisconsin is 5-1 against the spread in its past six Big Ten games and is 13-5-1 against the spread in its past 19 home games. In the past six matchups between the two schools in Wisconsin the under has cashed out in five of the six.

The current line has Wisconsin favored at home by 2 ½ points with the total points at 52 ½. I like the Buckeyes in this matchup plus the points, with the total making winners of the UNDER.
