Toledo vs Northern Illinois Free Pick

November 14, 2012

Tonight the NCAA primetime road show heads to Illinois where the Toledo Rockets will visit the Northern Illinois Huskies in a key Mid American Conference matchup. The Rockets have a record this year of 8-2 straight up and 6-4 against the spread. The Huskies have done even better as they are 9-1 loss straight up and 8-1-1 against the spread.

With a win tonight, the Huskies will clinch the MAC’s west division for the second straight season and earn a berth to the MAC championship. Toledo was also supposed to be playing for the title tonight as well, but they looked beyond their opponent last week and lost to Ball State 34-27.

Toledo had over 311 yards on the ground and was in control of that game during the early stages of the fourth quarter, but Ball State was able to drive down the field late in the game to score and seal an upset victory in the last minute of play.

Northern Illinois is undefeated since they lost the first game of the season 18-17 to Iowa. They have won their nine games by large margins, including a win over Massachusetts 63-0. Jordan Lynch the Northern Illinois’ quarterback has 3,571 yards this season of total offense and is a long shot for the Heisman Trophy.

Offense will be the word of the night in tonight’s matchup. Northern Illinois is in first place in virtually every offensive category in the conference, including total yards per game, rushing yards per game and scoring. They average over 40 points each game, which is first in the conference and ninth in the nation.

Toledo has an exceptional offense as well. The Rockets are third overall in offense in the conference and fourth in scoring with nearly 34 points per game. The Rockets David Fleullen leads the MAC in rushing with 138 yards per game.

Northern Illinois has won the last two straight head-to-head matchups with Toledo and three of the past four. Last year, the Huskies defeated the Rockets 63-60.

The current line shows Northern Illinois as a 10 ½ point favorite with the total sitting at 64. Smart money takes the total to cash out on the over, as the game will be high scoring. If you need to pick a winner, take Toledo and the points.
