Knicks vs Magic Free Pick

November 13, 2012

Two weeks into the NBA season and only one team is still undefeated. That team must be Miami or San Antonio or possibly Oklahoma City, right? WRONG!

The only unbeaten team in the NBA is the New York Knick, that’s right, the Knicks have started the season winning all four of their games and travel tonight to Disneyworld to take on the Orlando Magic. The Magic won their first two games of the season, but have lost four consecutive to fall to 2-4 straight up on the season.

New York, led by the offense of Carmelo Anthony, has become one of the NBA’s highest scoring clubs, yet it is a team commitment on defense that has separated them from the rest of the NBA. A win tonight will extend the best start the franchise has had in 19 years. On the other hand, Orlando is looking for a win to avoid losing five straight since early last season.

The Knicks have averaged 104.5 points per game on offense and are giving up just 87.5 points and 40% shooting from the field on defense. Both of those defensive stats lead the NBA. Last Friday, the Knicks defeated Dallas by 10 points, while forcing the Maverick to turn the ball over 20 times. Anthony had 31 points on the night and the Knicks defense allowed Dallas only 37 points in the entire second half.

The Knick have won three of the last four head-to-head encounters with Orlando. Last season they won two of the three games played against the Magic.

Orlando is only averaging 77 points per game during their four game losing streak. They lost last Friday to Brooklyn 107-68 and then on Sunday to Brooklyn again 82-74. Glen Davis is leading the Magic in scoring this season. Orlando will be without the services of Hedo Turkoglu and Al Harrington. Jameer Nelson, their point guard, might also miss his sixth consecutive game.

The line currently has New York favored on the road by 6 ½ with the total resting at 188. Nearly all smart money bettors have taken the Knicks less the 6 ½ points to cover, while nearly 90% have taken the points to cash out on the over.
