Chiefs vs Steelers Free Pick

Two franchises with storied histories in the AFC and NFL meet tonight in Pittsburgh when the Kansas City Chiefs travel east to meet the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers enter the game with a record of 5-3 straight up and 4-4 against the spread. The Chiefs have been in a tailspin all season and enter the game tonight with a record of 1-7 straight up and 2-6 against the spread.

Pittsburgh is on a high entering the game as they have won three straight games, while the Chiefs cannot get much lower, as they have lost five consecutive games. Last weekend Pittsburgh won 24-20 against the New York Giants.

The game looked like the old “Steel Curtain” defense of the late 1970s and early 1980s as they held the Giants offense to just 182 total yards. Offensively Ben Roethlisberger the Steelers quarterback rallied the team to 14 straight points in the fourth quarter to upend New York.

The Chiefs have been one of the most disappointing teams this season in the NFL. Last weekend Kansas City played well through three quarters but fell apart during the fourth and lost to San Diego 31-13. The Chiefs allowed to straight defensive touchdowns during the quarter to seal their fate in the game.

Do not write off the Chiefs completely. They are a desperate team and will do anything it takes to win. Matt Cassel will start in place of the injured Brady Quinn, who had earlier replaced Cassel as the starter. The Chiefs have the third best rushing offense in the NFL with an average of 150 yards per game, but will be facing the seventh best rushing defense in the league.

Pittsburgh won last year’s encounter 13-9 in Kansas City, but since 1994 the head to head series has  been dead even at 5 wins and 5 losses straight up for each team. The Chiefs have won the last two games against the spread in the head-to-head matchups with the Steelers.

The current line has the Steelers as the home field favorite by 13 ½ points with the total points at 41. Odd things happen on Monday Night Football and tonight will be no exception. Take the Chiefs to cover and the total to cash out to the under.
