76ers vs Celtics Free Pick

November 09, 2012

All the pieces are in the box, now Boston Celtics’ Head Coach Doc Rivers just has to put them all together. His revamped Boston Celtics will take on the Philadelphia 76ers tonight in a rematch of the Eastern Conference semifinals from last season.

Boston started their 2012 campaign with two straight defeats, but has rebounded with two straight wins to even their record at 2-2. However, the two wins were not impressive as they were against the winless Washington Wizards. Wednesday night Boston won 100-94 but needed overtime to clinch the win at home and last Saturday in Washington the Celtics defeated the Wizards 89-86.

Boston players are trying to get accustomed to the additions of new players like Courtney Lee, Jason Terry, Jared Sullinger and Leandro Barbosa. Throw in Jeff Green who missed the entire season last year because of an aneurysm and you have five players playing big minutes who did not play last season. The teams’ stalwarts Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Rajon Rondo are all playing at their normal high levels of production.

Philly also has a record of 2-2 early in the season and they are playing solid defense thus far. They acquired Andrew Bynum from the Los Angeles Lakers in the offseason, but he has been out injured to start the season due to a knee injury. On Wednesday, Philly’s defense caused New Orleans to turn the ball over 24 times and the 76ers won 77-62.

The 76ers are led by point guard Jrue Holiday. The 22 year old is averaging 18 points per game to lead the team to go along with over 9 assists per game.

Boston has defeated the 76ers in Boston in six of the past seven games they have played head to head in the regular season.

The line in tonight’s game has Boston as the favorite by 5 ½ points with the total sitting at 179 ½. I like the Celtics at home less the points, with the total making winners of smart money bettors taking the OVER.
