Eagles vs Saints Free Pick

Monday Night Football returns to Bayou country when the New Orleans Saints host the Philadelphia Eagles tonight. Both teams have struggled this season and their records are clear evidence of that.

Philadelphia is 3-4 straight up and 1-5-1 against the spread. New Orleans is 2-5 straight up and 3-4 against the spread.

Last Sunday the Eagles lost after a bye week when they fell to unbeaten Atlanta 30-17. The loss was the third consecutive for the Eagles. The loss also put starting quarterback Michael Vick’s job in jeopardy.

The Saints started their season with four consecutive losses, then won two straight, but lost again last Sunday to the Denver Broncos 34-14. The offseason “Bounty Scandal” has been a thorn in the side of the Saints as players and coaches have been suspended, reinstated and re-suspended. How can that not affect the way a team plays?

The Saints defense has been porous all season giving up 30 points per game. However, the Eagles offense has 17 fumble during the season, of which they lost 9 of them. The Eagles overall turnover margin this season is minus 9.

The Saints offense is number one in the NFL in passing. The Saints average 316 yards per game through the air and the offense is in the league’s top 10 for scoring with an average of more than 27 points per game. However, if your defense gives up 30 per game, then that does not add up to many wins.

The Saints won the last matchup between the two teams in 2009 by the score of 48 to 22. However, Philly has a record of 7 wins and 3 losses straight up and against the spread in the past 10 games the teams have played head to head dating all the way back to 1992. The Eagles also have 5 wins and 1 loss against the spread in the past six games in New Orleans.

The current line has the Saints favored by 3 points, as the point total sits at 52 ½. Smart money bettors are taking Philly plus the 3 points and for the total to cash out to on the over.
